A worker at the Immigrant and Refugee center mentioned funds might be available for my partner's re-training and I said that would be really helpful because the process has made us broke. She then said "But I heard Immigration is cheap! Only $1,000" :o :o :o :o yeah, right!

Immigration process AND SETTLEMENT process both make us on the verge of social assistance!

As with many myths there is also some truth hidden behind them.

Back in the 60's and 70's You got married you stayed. Your baby was born here you stayed and get all privileges!

:) :) :)

and you didn't even have to get married or have a child half the time
you could just come and say you want to stay and they would allow you

even 15 years ago, a friend of mine from japan bought a ticket, flew to Canada and when she got to the airport said she wanted to live here as a landed immigrant and they said okay sure and gave her all her paperwork. and shes been here every since.

True. I immigrated 33 years ago. it was an employer invitation. It took 6 months of course but it was so easy. No endless applications (to tell you the truth I never saw one) a typical medical test, and welcome to Canada and have a good life sir!
As for my citizenship three years from the day I Landed it was a simple application in Citizenship offices in St.Clair and Yonge a very constructive face to face interview with a judge whom himself was aqn immigrant and a month late a beautiful ceremony!
Wham bam!

wow!
yeah so much easier hey!!
how the times have changed!,

than again back than we didnt have the problems we do now In the world unfortunately.

All of the above. Plus I also had to deal with "your husband is Indian? Are you sure he's not trying to use you to come here?" I have since trimmed a lot of idiots out of my life. The major recurring theme is definitely "but aren't you guys married? Why can't he just come here?" AND a lot of people who have never had to apply for a visa before assume its as simple as buying a ticket.

i also heard that after you reached 80 yrs your application is deleted from cic computers not sure of this

The greatest myth is - "80% of the cases were processed in X months" However, in reality, the actual processing time is X times Y where Y is an integer between 2 and infinity, randomly picked by the Hon. Minister of the day.

I'm voting for you to be Prime Minister whether you want it or not. That is the best comment I have ever read.

Until my wife receives her passport with her visa in it I still believe the whole process to be a myth. Not unlike the Iliad.

When she gets it back I will let you know. I think by what the GCMS notes said that June 6th would be the date. That is if I read it right.

I hear if you check ECAS too often you will go blind... :P
