Hi all,

I live in USA and my husband has applied for my canadian PR. My processing centre is Buffalo New York. I have received my file no and UCI no. He is a canadian citizen. Now he is getting a job in canada so we are planning to move. I will be going to canada on visitor visa while my PR application is still in progress. I have couple of questions regarding this:

1. Can I enter canada on visitor visa while my PR file is in process and What all documents do I need to carry?

2. What should I be telling on border since I am entering canada on visitor visa? (i.e how should I answer to question asked by office eg. If he asks me why I am entering canada on visitor visa while my PR file is still in process?)

3. If I change home address on my file from USA to canada how will that work? (i.e; will I receive correspondence on my canada address?)

4. How will I receive landing documents? Do I have to enter usa to get landing document?

please advise

1. Yes. Proof of your application, such as the sponsor approval letter, would be good. Proof of ties to the US would also be good, and if your spouse is with you, let him do the talking.

2. That you are visiting to wait out the remainder of your PR application process.

3. Yes, change the address online with CIC via a case-specific enquiry. Don't expect them to reply, they won't reply to such emails, but your address should be changed after a while.

4. They will be sent to you via mail. You don't need to go back to the US to receive them.

Hi

1. I want to know what do you mean by proof of ties with usa. I am an Indian citizen residing in USA on H4 visa.?

2. Will I receive landing documents mail to my canadian address?

3. if my husband is talking on border regarding my entry to canada on visitor visa, We will be moving with my stuff too. I mean while moving there will be my clothes and personal stuff, so how should he answer them if any question asked regarding my stuff?

4. If I receive my landing documents in canada and if I want to declare some stuff that I want to bring from my home country, how can I do that? Do I need to come on border and show my landing documents and get approval of my stuff that I want to bring?

Please advise

Thank you

Do you already have a TRV?

When you say you have a temporary visitors visa for 5 years, are you describing the document you have for Canada, or are you describing your H4 (spousal) visa for the US? If the latter, that has no bearing on your status in Canada.

If you have a five year TRV for Canada, that should be sufficient to allow you to enter Canada.

Ya I have 5 years TRV for canada.

I also want to know what is the procedure for getting landing papers?

Do I need to submit my passport?

Since I will be living in canada how should I submit my passport and where should I submit it, missisauga or buffalo office?

If I submit my passport from canada and suppose that I have to apply for my visitor visa extention in canada how will it work?

Do I need to come for a visa interview in buffalo, New York, USA for my PR and what are the chances for getting an interview?

what happens if I submit my passport to buffalo office from canada? Will I be allowed to stay in canada on visitor visa? Is it legal?

Please advise

Then you're all set for entry into Canada.

You have to submit your application. Since you're married to a Canadian citizen, I expect you'd be doing a sponsored application. Start here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/spouse.asp

Eventually, yes, but you don't submit it until they request it.

They will give you directions on how to do it. You can take it in person, or you can send it to the office as they direct. Typically, they would have you send it to Ft. Erie, ON and it is then taken to Buffalo via diplomatic pouch.

While unlikely (you said you have a five YEAR TRV) you can apply for your TRV exension online, no need for your passport at all.

If you apply through Buffalo and they request an interview, it will be at one of the US locations, which does include Buffalo.

You will be fine. There would be a short period of time you would be without your passport, so you won't be able to travel across the border, but other than that, it's perfectly legal.

Good luck!

My husband has already applied for my PR file from USA. I have received my file no and UCI no.

But if I have submitted my passport to buffalo visa office and If I am required to enter USA , How is it possible to do so? I mean, My passport is already submitted to Buffalo office and I am going to need my passport to enter USA from Canada, then how can I do so?

Hi Computergeek,

I am an Indian citizen, living in USA and my husband has applied for my canadian PR. My processing centre is Buffalo New York. I have received my file no and UCI no. He is a canadian citizen. Now he is getting a job in canada so we are planning to move. I will be going to canada on visitor visa while my PR application is still in progress.

What is the procedure for applying for visitor visa extension? Since I am allowed to stay in canada for 6 months only.

I also want to know that what does it mean by " Medical records have been received" on my file status?

I can see on cic website about my file status which states that medical records have been received, so do you know roughly how much time is left for processing after this? I still have to submit my FBI police clearance certificate, since it was lost by FedEx people. so now I am waiting for a new one to arrive which might take a 2-3 weeks.

You can extend your stay online (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/extend-stay.asp#extend).

If you want to know more about where your application is in processing, I would suggest ordering your CAIPS/GSSM notes (this can only be done by someone in Canada, however.)

As for how long it will take, pick a number - your guess is as good as anyone elses. CIC has far more applications than staff and accordingly it just takes a very long and very unpredictable time.
