Re: Off Topic: do not use mail.ru emails

This just came to my attention:

Please remove []:

Sorry if this ancient history for you.
Yes, we have been aware of this a long time. We supplied two emails mail.ru and yahoo.com for my wife's emails on the application. Because our emails to one another were from mail.ru and wanted to keep the link. When they sent AOR, they sent to both addresses...when they requested my passport, they used only Yahoo...

Thanks for the info, it is very valuble info

Actually they mention problems receiving emails from mail.ru, not sending them.

Yes, My wife has had issues even sending emails to me sometimes using mail.ru. It's very random and hasn't happened in a while. For a few weeks she had to email me from Yahoo because emails using mail.ru kept bouncing back. But she had no problem receiving emails from me.

same thing for me when my wife tried to email me at work from her mail.ru account.
I could email her without problem.
Other emails she has worked perfectly both ways.

Intersting, thanks for bringing to our attention. It will now reflect what the new AORs say as well. I don't think there is anything to worry about. 8months to complete 80% of applications based on complete package (their most recent statistics)... So 8 months fits between that and the expected fluctuations from year to year should always be between 6-12 months for 80%. So the website is more generic now, the statistic timings we should really gauge by is what CIC states (80%/8mos).

Most of us in the past are getting approved between 4-7 months of AOR recently...There is a small chance 20% that it will take 8 months (remaining percentage of the 80% for 8 months). They're just covering themselves so they are not required to answer everyone that is over 6 months, because statistics prove it takes more than this. This also included complicated cases, and ours are fairly straight forward :)

There is a larger chance that you will be approved in 6 months, than 1 year, believe me! :)

I agree but this might also just be wishful thinking on my part ;)

Today I received Quebec MICC's Certificat de sélection du Québec (CSQ) dated Feb 10. I had sent them the forms on Jan 19 after being approved as sponsor by CIC, they charged my credit card (C$253) on the 29th, analyzed the application and mailed their reply with CSQ on Feb 11 from Montreal.

They mention that a copy is also being sent to Moscow visa office and that I should send this original to my wife as she may need it upon landing.

Life is good! :)

Well, I'm pretty certain that they have some standards in each embassy and their own system. Ours right now has the record of 80% in 8 months and I'm certain that it begins when they receive the package, that is why our AOR letters are backdated from the received date (my opinion).

But, as you know, some people are done in a little over 2 months...Others much longer...Unfortunately there are so many factors involved and it's impossible to tell how long it will take. We know that it could be over at any moment for us now...but it is unlikely and could be dragged on for months after months...Who knows! That's what kills me about this! The unknown end!

At least we have done everything we could to let the officer know that we love our wives and miss them dearly... All we can do is keep ourselves busy, think positive and dream about that one day when we least expect it, BAM the PPR comes out of nowhere and everything goes like crazy from that point and all this BS forgotten. Look at Tallen, Mearplane, Frolic, Calvados...etc. There nowhere to be found now :))))

Even after almost 3 months of AOR (4.5 months received), I don't expect anything to happen for at least another month or two...

Also to consider: most people with a quick resolution of their case don't hang out on forums so we never hear about their (good) experience.

I remember some months back seeing the distribution of resolution times: e.g. 30% of cases are processed within 3 months, 50% withing 4 months, etc. I cannot find it anymore but I remember distinctly that the average value given (I think 9 months then) was the time needed to resolve 80% of all cases. 6-12 months probably just represent values around it and is given to prevent people from asking too soon about their case.

Other than that the time for one specific "simple" case (like ours) seems to vary widely depending on officer(s) in charge, time of year, case load, politics, specific details "not so simple" (e.g. Canadian sponsor born in another country?), etc.

Ubernemo, What you saw was on the CIC website. Each country had a percentage for 2-4-6..months but it was removed Oct-Nov. of last year. Again, I don't think anything is getting worse, they just done want to give false hope I suppose.

I'm not sure if not being born in Canada would slow things down. I've seen both cases getting approved fast. My advice, don't start to get excited until after 2-3 months from AOR (based on history).
