Right! The waybill was received at the embassy 1 week ago, (same as yours), but we received the original on Saturday via regular mail. I'll keep checking the waybill though to see if anything happens.

I am so happy for you!! I also totally understand - Canada means total freedom for us and more opportunities as well. How is your husband going to go about job hunting? Mine just started.
Thank you Canadanagirl78! Today we went to apply for his SIN. They gave us the number and the card will arrive in 10 business days. They said he could start working immediately with the letter they gave us that has the number on it. Concerning job hunting, he actually went out looking for work today. He is looking primarily in retail since his English is somewhat good. He needs to further his education so he is also looking into taking some courses as well.

We got the SIN card pretty fast. It wasn't quite as golden as a SSN but it was really awesome to get. My husband went to the employment center called Northern Lights which is a govt thing and boy it is awesome. Resume critiquing, seminars, interview prep, lots of resources and help. He came home with a packet the first time that is really going to help.

Canadiangirl and Americana.. did your husbands have health insurance when the crossed. It was mentioned here before and I can't remember. Is it mandatory to have the travel/health insurance for 3 months until they are covered?

He has to get a waiver aka a pardon and a visitors visa. We will try. But when he left - it started a ten year ban. I'm a US citizen too and we started the green card process but it's a difficult path. One day...
I'd read about the 10-year ban, but I do wonder: what happens once he's got a Canadian passport? It's not like he was deported and all his info is on file that way, so presumably, he could just go to a border crossing with passport in hand (in about 4 years, yes) and just go in if the system and/or the agent doesn't spit out some sort of flag. Does this make sense?

What if they slide his passport through the machine? There might be a match due to name/DOB. And I'm sure they have his photo there. I don't know if I would risk it.

but lets say you did that and a red flag popped up... all they would do is deny entry correct?/... nothing else..

I believe so. As a Canadian citizen he will be entitled to entering the U.S. at will, barring a challenge by border agencies. So let's say he's denied entry. What's the harm? It wouldn't extend the 10-year ban.
I wouldn't risk it either if some other process was under way, such as trying to get him a green card but other than that ... what's the worse that can happen?
Also, speaking of red flags, why would one come up? If he never got in any trouble, and given the years that will have passed by then, is it a justified fear that the system would have a cow?

No it isn't mandatory. We didn't get any although it isn't a bad idea.

It is possible to get in if they don't ask questions and don't scan his passport. And maybe even if they did scan it would be ok. But he could get a lifetime ban and that would S U C K.

Wrong. Lifetime ban for disobeying the 10 year ban.
