It used to be that it only had to be issued in the same calendar year. The new instructions don't say anything about issue date.

hmmm interesting, well perhaps we will wait since he already has one, and just get a new one if need be, no use paying for more documents than we need !

Yes, you need a birth certificate to get the PGR. You will also need one for the SSP certificate.

The confusion is probably because in Mexico, colloquially the 'certified copies' issued officially by Civil Registry Offices are called 'originals.' This makes sense, in a weird way, since you never really get an original, per se. The real, shall we say 'unique original' is only in the books held in the Civil Registry Office where you were registered.
oo okay. yeah that is confusing!!, thanks for helping clear it up though :)

so according to that link there is no problem when it was issued?

or are we gunna have to waste more time getting a new one that is issued in a certain time frame

Where was your husband born? My state (Baja California) allows me to order "Original" birth certificate copies online and they mail them through a certified courrier, you just pay the fee. Very modern! (for Mexico LOL)

Yep, that was in May. This is just what the PGR guy told him...but I have learned from experience in Mexico that one person can say one thing and another person can say something completely different!!

LeisaP: then your husband´s will probably be in mexico city! You should take the opportunity now that you are in DF to go to the registro civil there and order a copy! It´s very simple you just go there and ask for it, pay the fee and they have it ready in a few days!

oh sorry I thought you didn´t have one yet! But if you have one from 2012 it should be okay...I think it says at the bottom when it was printed. Make sure you take a photocopy of it though cause you need it for the SSP too!

Also They let other people go and order it for you...you don´t even need a carta de poder or anything.

Argh - that makes it unclear if 6 months was 6 months or still means issued this year. Alas, I would call them and ask, LeisaP before going (or just get a new one)

Yup. Although, the PGR does tend to be straightforward. And, has tried making things easier (with opening regional offices, etc). Got to give them credit for identifying the need and adapting.

You can also get them at the Treasury Customer Service Centers (some are in supermarkets) or at self-service kiosks. Here's a list of locations.

ETA - and it seems they also offer online service now :)

ETA2 - just saw you still have one from this year. Hopefully this helps someone else if yours is indeed from 2012.
