I know what I saw in the notice that was posted on the CIC website, because it was THRILLING, and I couldn't believe our luck. I should have taken a screenshot to prove it, damnit! Maybe it was an error on CIC's part, which is why the notice has since been edited, but I distinctly saw it state that all applications received before the June 13th announcement would be part of the CIC's "back log initiative." It makes sense to have a start and end point/cutoff, and why couldn't it be June 13th? Now, would those of us who applied in May be dealt with before those who submitted prior? Quite likely not, but we would still benefit from being part of this effort to expeditiously deal with the back log, so long as those applications were straightforward.

Guys - Do you really think that our files would be considered in "back log initiative"..?? I mean, wouldn't they try to first get hold on files which "actually" are in back log. Well I hope it does... but to me it seems that our applications are fairly new and this "back log" initiative wouldn't be applicable on MAY 2016 applicants ...... Any thoughts ??

this is very common. medicals received may or may not show up until after sponsor approval and the application has been forwarded to the visa office. it's no indication of anything wrong.

I'm in the same boat. May 20th applicant and haven't heard anything yet. Wait until you've hit day 43 and you can call CIC and inquire about your application status. Some people don't receive AOR1 and only hear something once they've gotten SA.

That is just an update to your ECAS. Pretty much the same update as an AOR1.
SA will be an email with an PDF. attached to it. This is the SA letter.
If you didn't put an email address in your application, you'll get this letter mailed to you (most likely a little later than if you had it emailed).

Canadianprairiegent, is this what you were talking about on your earlier post? Sorry it's so long, it wouldn't let me just post the link :(

Notice – Government addresses spousal backlog and wait times
Ottawa, June 13, 2016 – As part of its commitment to family reunification, the Government of Canada will grant permanent residence to more spouses, partners and dependent children of Canadian citizens and permanent residents this year. This will significantly reduce the backlog of existing applications and speed up processing times going forward.

Each year, the Government sets how many permanent residents Canada intends to admit through its various immigration categories during the year. This is done with the annual immigration levels plan. The plan for 2016 reflects the Government's key priorities for immigration, which include bringing more families together.

This year, the Government increased the number of spaces allowed for spouses, partners and dependent children by 14 000, bringing it up to 62 000 spaces.

Over the past few years, more people have applied to come to Canada in the spousal category than there was space for in previous immigration levels plans; this has created a backlog. This year, the Government will reduce this backlog.

Tackling the spousal backlog will ease the uncertainty faced by spouses and partners wanting to move forward and build their lives in Canada with their family and help them integrate into our communities and our economy.

Increasing the number of admission spaces for spouses and partners is one of the measures the Government has taken to support family reunification. Through Budget 2016, $25 million was also allocated to support faster and more predictable processing times for family sponsorship.

What this means for applicants
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has begun to work on reducing its current spousal sponsorship backlog.

Reducing the backlog means complete and straightforward spousal sponsorship applications will be finalized faster.

The backlog reduction applies to applications received through the family class (overseas processing) as well as the spouse or common-law partner in Canada class (in-Canada processing).

All applications will continue to undergo the necessary screening to ensure that individuals do not pose a health, safety or security risk to Canadians and that the relationships are genuine.

If you have already submitted an application to sponsor your spouse or partner, IRCC may contact you to advise you if we need additional information to help process your application. You do not need to contact us, but please make sure your file is up to date.

If you are contacted, please respond to any communication you receive from us within the time frame provided in order to ensure that we can properly process your application. The success of our efforts relies on your cooperation.

If you have not yet submitted an application to sponsor your spouse or partner but plan to do so, the application will not be dealt with as part of our backlog reduction efforts, but it will be processed as quickly as possible.

IRCC's work to reduce the backlog will eventually benefit all spousal applicants—whether they are already in the backlog or submitting a new application—by bringing down wait times for all.

Find general information on family sponsorship, and find answers to your questions at the Help Centre.

The date that the notice was posted (June 13th) has nothing to do with an arbitrary cutoff for faster processing. It simply means that is when the notice is posted on the website, that is all. Nowhere did it state that applications received after receive less priority.

Yes, BCgirl1, that was the notice, but it has been modified/edited. What you provided was not the original post that I saw. Decoy24601, I know the difference between the "posted date" of the notice and a specific paragraph/section that detailed which applications would be considered in the mix for the special initiative, and the subsequent "cutoff date." There was a short paragraph (maybe two or three sentences) that specifically stated that applications received before June 13th would be "fast tracked" to deal with the backlog, provided the applications were straightforward. I don't know why they chose a cut off date of June 13th, which seems arbitrary to some, but unless we're privy to the department's decision-making process, really any date seems arbitrary to an outsider. It doesn't mean that applications after that are of less priority, but perhaps, rather, based on average expected applications that this might be their cut off to get their heads back above water so they can process all applications in a timely manner. Who are we to know, but I know what I saw. I'm not an idiot; editing is part of what I do for a living, so I'm prone to noticing even the slightest of things, and I know what I saw, but it seems to be inconsequential at this point, since the notice has been modified. It seems to have been changed quite quickly, which may mean that the original notice was posted before it was checked carefully by higher powers, or else they had second thoughts and didn't want to advertise a cut off date, to save a plethora of phone calls and frustrated people.

Anyhow, I'm not here to argue. Congrats to all who have received their AOR1's and SA's. Enjoy the ride.
