thx for the tip.

About the medical examination, it is rather unclear and I would like to ask a question.

They say * the applicant and ALL the family members have to pass a medical exam *

I mean, really ??? Why do her mother, father, brother have to spend hundreds of dollars to go to another city and pass tests. They don't want to emigrate !

Is it really necessary to have a medical exam for every family member? Or is it only my wife ?
On the CIC website, they describe what they mean by family members like this:

"Your family members include your spouse or common-law partner, your dependent children and any children that are their dependent children."

So no, parents, grandparents, siblings etc. are not considered family members for the applicaton.

Hi friends
I am planning to fill up the forms and checked the doc checklists and found that IMM 5443, IMM5287 and IMM 5491 are the document checklists for the Sponsorship Application. There are different specifications and forms in different Checklists. So, I am confused. Plz kindly let me know which checklist should be included in the Application.

Thank you.

Hi everyone,
Even if nobody likes to respond to this forum, I continue posting my query just to not let this May 2016 thread disappear because I am sure to be benefitted by this forum in future as I fall under it. Here again comes one question, if the marriage ceremony was arranged by our parents but we were in love since many years ago, does such marriage become arranged marriage? This is the concern to fill up 5490 questionnaire.

Thank you

From what I know, there's only one checklist that I followed which was IMM 5491. Just make sure you include everything you need to on that checklist. I've never heard of the other two checklists you speak of (IMM 5443 and 5287).

From googling "IMM 5443", I found that IMM 5443 is for INLAND APPLICANTS. IMM 5287 looks like just an OLD version of IMM 5491, as it is missing "supporting docs checklist" for the sponsored applicant.

This group is for MAY OUTLAND SPOUSAL APPLICANTS, so in a nutshell all people in this group should be using IMM 5491.

For that question you need to google the definition of an "arranged marriage". This does not mean a wedding ceremony that your parents organized and paid for. Basically, did your mom and dad talk to your spouse's mom and dad and say, "Hey, you want to have my son/daughter marry your son/daughter?" If this is the case, then it was an arranged marriage.

If your parents just paid for or organized your wedding ceremony, it's NOT an arranged marriage. Just make sure it matches up with your other answers of how you met and fell in love with your spouse. This question is just for them to gauge the genuine nature and connect the dots for the history of the relationship.

Hi Bishista1,

If we read the definition of arranged marriage as per these 3 sources only:

Wikipedia:
Arranged marriage: Arranged marriage is a type of marital union where the bride and groom are selected by their families.

Merriam-Webster:
A marriage in which the husband and wife are chosen for each other by their parents

Oxforddictionaries:
A marriage planned and agreed to by the families or guardians of the bride and groom, who have little or no say in the matter themselves.

One may have the impression, after reading your situation, that since you mentioned "we were in love since many years ago" that you and your spouse were the ones who chose each other as opposed to each other's parents. In this case one can consider your marriage as not being arranged. That the parents did such as wedding planners do.

Yet, if it is each other's parents/families that have selected you and your spouse to be in a marital union, in this case you would still be considered under the arranged marriage category.

Hi bishista,

I applied in April and completed 2 checklists, one being the standard IMM 5491 and then a supplemental based on region. For instance, my husband lives in Jamaica so we completed IMM 3909 which basically requested the same information/documents from the Sponsorship and Immigration forms. Here is the link I used, http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp

Not too sure if this is the same steps you're following. But hopefully this sheds some light on your question though. Good luck

Hi AmandaCanDR1, Arranged marriage works differently at different places. In India, many times prospective groom and bride themselves look for their partners and then get their parents approval before getting married. I myself went through same and got married few months back!!!!

Congrats for the wedding vhaibhavxv

While I was reading more about arranged marriage I found this quote "I don’t think love marriage and arranged marriage are as different as we make them out to be -Michael J. Rosenfeld

As long as we're happy in our marriages that is what matters ;)
