My wife and I were married in October of 2011. I was aiming to get our application in by december but she was delayed in getting her passport changed so we delayed until february. Unfortunately her medical and police checks were done relatively quickly. I was about to send it in then but a call to CIC said they required an income statement from the most recent year so I had to delay it until I got my taxes done. I was able to send them in for May. The processing time then was 7 months which still gave us ample time to get approved prior to her meds expiring but alas CIC lost a portion of my sponsorship application and that delayed stage 1 by 2.5 months. During my many calls to CIC I was assured that the medicals can be extended. This of course is a lie.

got to say something.... I was at the CEM May 4/13 at 8.30 am... I watched the staff come in one at a time so many were late.... this was a Friday morn...sitting in the embassy.....hey they only had to work till 1.30 pm.... I bet they took lunch at noon till 1 then took half hr to go back to their desk...Hey !!!! its time to go home....and relaxe for the weekend.... there has never been a PPR on a Friday and by the way not one this week...

i think they lied about the income statement too unless ur bringing dependant inlaws, maybe i forgot something i think i remember getting a letter from my employer stating my work history and salary, but i know i didnt send in my income tax statement

it says to send in your Tax return.... you must owe the gov,t... that don,t help... CIC sent back my tax return to me in 42 days after we were approoved...in the mail....

Complaining after the fact can be easily ignored.

Just remember that complaining during while within the processing times can also be easily ignored... And consider that the individuals deciding your life are underpaid employees working in a position of power.

You've been through enough thus far...it just worries me.

I had a really good year that year but owed the government $12000 more than I had accounted for so in the end I was back to being broke. No point in working 2 jobs as one will all go to paying tax.

Well its time to go!!!!! I hope everything moves fast for all of us..... my wife is now starting to get worried .... but we have to wait.... I would never do this again esp when both my wife and I are in ours fiftys.... with no children.... just have to wait.... hey maybe I can put her on old age soon when she arrives.... see you soon

They make about $10000/year less than their domestic counterparts. That is part of their contract negotiations. To try and correct that. I actually agree with their position but they may be trying to make up the difference colluding with the panel doctors to keep redoing medicals $150 a shot.

I think you have more bargaining power "in situ". An application that has passed is resolved for them regardless of just how screwed you got.

you got to remember in manila food is approx 50% the cost here, living quarters are very cheap, no heating costs, transportation is cheap. Look at wages in alberta compared to new brunswick doubled but the cost of living there is doubled also MY WIFE WAS MAKING ABOUT160 DOLLARS A MONTH TEACHING SCHOOL A 2 YEARS AGO, THATS 2000 A YEAR AND YOU ARE TALKING A DIFFERENCE OF 10,000 LIKE ITS JUST A SMALL PORTION

They are away from friends and family. They miss birthdays and such. The air quality in Manila is toxic. I love the Philippines but I would never live in Manila. You cannot own your own home. It sounds far more glamourous than it is. If I was a young single guy I would love it but those folks with spouses who can't work and kids that may not have access to all the priviledges that they would have in Canada. Never mind the postings in wartorn or politically uncertain countries.
