I've been reading that people are still getting visas despite the embassies being without staff. Anyone have any thoughts? Is this just the essential staff that cannot strike?

While it is prettier it isn't as nice as the old one. I could look at my status with just mouse clicks before. But I don't have to look at it anymore thank goodness.

Also my wife called to tell me DHL had her package. She will be picking it up tomorrow. I see a light at the end of the tunnel! Hope it's not a train!

I don't know about the others but according to the tracking information they picked up the package from the embassy on the 23rd. But it seems they couldn't find my wife's address so it sat till she called them on Monday the 29th. So at that point the strike hadn't started yet. Maybe they did a final burst of visas last week before they closed up shop on Friday?

nope. i just went there to open a bank account, and then they offered the credit card. it's part of their startright program for newcomers.

The more stories she has the better she can make a good impact.

Email her your story of now adding 2 more + months to an already lengthy process.

We can't sit idle and complain about it anymore. We need to take action.

Flood their emails, make them take action.

I emailed her hoping that she would consider doing a broader piece on the decline of democracy as applied by Harper's Government.

Hello guys!

I'm a bit worried about my itinerary. Im due to go on Aug 9 and my port of entry is Toronto and I'll be staying there for 1hr and 20 min only. My husband called an immigration officer regarding this if I'm able to do the immigration procedure in Montreal instead and he said It's possible considering that I don't have enough time in Toronto. Any of you guys has the same experience? Thank you!

there are lots of flights to montreal,,,,if your itinery is all one package they will just throw you on the next available flight if immigration delays you im quite sure they will not let you leave Toronto without going through customs and immigration,,,,,,when you go to montreal from toromto you will be on a domestic flight,,,,

no,,,not if its included in 1 package
I think the 1 hour 20 minutes is plenty of time,,,,,,,remember to tell someone your connecting flight is soon if there is a very long line up at customs they will bump you ahead

If your not coming into Toronto on air Canada you will have to go to the air Canada terminal,,,there is a bus every 5 minutes,,,,,,it takes only 5 minute drive
