only 9?! that's nothing! I spend 3 or 4 every time I talk to my sister or dad. Thank goodness for free us/canada calling!! And when I was living in Canada and my husband(still boyfriend at the time) was in the US we would talk for 10 or more at a time. We used to fall asleep all the time and wake up and keep talking...lol

We would do Skype video calling. Longest calls were both at 13 hours. It would've been a 26 hour call, but Skype dropped in the middle of the night. Hubby called me back and answered with Teamviewer while I was none the wiser :D

Good Morning Everyone!,

What's on the agenda for today???

Speaking of phone calls, we're lucky to have a very reasonable international plan through my husband's phone co; 700 minutes for $14 CAD from JA to Canada!!

Also, for anyone who buys phone cards and find it a pain as this doesn't keep record of calls, try www.smartreach.ca

Prices are more competitive than phonecards, no connection fee, you can top up right online, and no pin dialing and it keeps a history of every call dialed (good for proof of communication to CIC).

Here's to a wonderful day and week ahead!!

Personally I'd invest in a Bluetooth headset and use Skype. I hate phones, much as I hate doctors and exercise. What a weirdo! Hee hee.

I'm mailing off my fingerprints again as well as my Christmas cards.

Then I'm making nachos and watching football. With my cat. My husband hates sports and doesn't know I watch it. To be fair, I don't REALLY watch it. It's more like white noise and I play on the computer and nap!

You're awesome HAHAHA!!

My hubbie has limited internet where he lives. The service is so slowwwww.

BTW, when would you be able to legally work? Trying to understand for when my hubbie arrives.

You can get him a SIN number as soon as he lands, and he's good to go for work immediately he has the number. I got my SIN the day after I arrived in Canada, the card came in the mail about a week later, but the lady at Service Canada said the number is all you need. Until he gets his PR card, his COPR and his passport with cancelled visa counterfoil are adequate proof of status for most things.

Good morning Charlie ;D

Thank you for the info. We're thinking about all these things since he'll want to get things started asap. He's really determined to find employment once he arrives. Good to know for timelines.

I was noticing the time some spend on the phone...9 hours :o 26 hours skyping!!!??? :o :o :o I was feeling guilty for 2 hours at a stretch...plus sometimes I phone on my cellphone that does not have int'l calling plan on it so my bill can sometimes be $$$ because most of the time we communicate by texting. We are able to see each other e/o weekend and we just "make it work" :-\

Nine to ten hours is definitely standard fare for us, which is sometimes a feat since he's in the UK. We're both lucky to have smartphones, so Viber, Tango, Skype, etc.

haha... 2 hours is nothing! My sister is still in NS and she will call me and we will chat and both be baking it is almost like we are just chatting while we work in the kitchen and we can pretend that there isn't 8000 miles between us. Thank goodness for good long distance plans because we haven't seen each other in over 6 years. I also spend a lot of time on the phone with my dad because we are moving up and living with him when we first get up there and we are going to work for his tree service company so there is a lot to work out. The funny thing for me and my husband is that even though we have been living together now for almost 7 years some of our best communication is when we are on the phone still. I feel like I get better focus from him or we go on long drives... he can't get out of talking and no tv to distract...lol

Morning NicAnn!

I had the same dilemma with expensive charges on cell bill at first...(I'm talking about for just 1 min. calls) then I discovered smartreach and it's been really good!! All prepaid so no unexpected bills!!

Good morning/afternoon ladies!
I just spend an hour on the phone with my hubby, but before that, we were on skype and then we use Google Talk for the rest of the day until we can get on the PC again.

I agree, thanks goodness we have smartphones! Even though he has a free long distance plan to the US, I don't but Viber has a very crisp connection, so sometimes we'll use Viber anyway.
