Then you can pay the fees however you wish. In fact, I think it's awesome you want to share them! (Mostly because my husband is making me pay mine alone!)

On a related note: (sorry for the interruption)
my fiance has offered to help pay some of my costs,is that even possible?
Yeah of course, I don't see why not. We paid some one one bank account and some on another (Although all the money pretty much came out of our joint savings account anyway!)

But I'm sure CIC will not mind who pays for what!

Re: Love or Opportunity?

Sponsorship application can last a while. What might be easier and faster; is if a non-Canadian finds an employer with an LMO. That will not only bring him/her to Canada faster, but also contribute to the financial part.

That's how it went down with me and my Canadian husband. Although now we will be submitting a sponsorship application; this demonstrated to me and him that I am more than wiling to work, contribute to our living together, suck up through the winter, etc, to be with him.

LMO process lasted a while, but I am here, freezing, working, and loving my hubby. :D

Re: Love or Opportunity?

I prefer to call it "Love or Money"

after all, opportunites wont pay your bills. Money will ! furthermore, good luck trying to get a half decent job in the big cities. Yes, there are lots of retail jobs but im afraid not many paying the big bucks........

For those who are trying to 'play' their Canadian hots, you will find out """"if you think the grass is greener on the other side.....fertilize your own first

Apparantly, 20 % of new Immigrants end up leaving..Canada (im sure most of these people were the ones trying to 'play' their host in Canada.)

B&B Congratulations!! That's certainly commendable to hear about. I think many more would take this route however don't know if everyone knows about the FWP program. If you can provide more details, links, how to, it may give others some options to weigh.

Love or Money - yup yup.

You're right, it's VERY competitive living in the big cities. However I believe true success comes with a plan and happens over a period and not overnight. Those that want a quick crash grab end up crashing anyway.

LOL you're right, CIC isn't concerned with who pays for what. It's just a good experience for a couple to both contribute towards their common goal of being together however they work it out.

That was my original plan. I even started looking for jobs in April 2011, months before I planned to move to Calgary with my husband. Then in June 2011, I got in a really bad car accident. That changed perspective for us... so I'm here and still looking for a job over a year later... but I finally got a few calls and an interview. :)

However, I saved the money for my fees before I moved here. It's always been safely set aside. So hubby might be footing the bill for our bills, but I'm contributing to my own immigration.

Thanks to everyone!

Luckily I was barely hurt - I left the hospital after only a few hours. The doctor told my dad how lucky I was to be alive and my dad just nods and says "She's a tough one." :D

Get ready to bundle up Amikety. It becomes an ice box out in Calgary over the winter until the warm Chinook passes by. :)

I survived last winter! Actually, the area I'm from got as low as -27 in the winter, so I'm not exactly scared of the cold ;)

Thank you! :) I was in Canada on a Working Holiday visa and found a really good job (NOC 0) before I met my husband - that also helped a lot. But when my WH visa expired - there was NO way of extending my stay other than getting a Labour Market Opinion - which was not easy for my job... But my employer really tried hard with the Human Resources; and we got it. I had to leave while the LMO was in the process - 2,5 months - but it finally happened. There are a lot of Tim Hortons that already have the LMO even in bigger cities; and I was prepared to work anything to stay with my hubby. But we got a little lucky in the end. :)

Now I have a work permit and plenty of time to apply for a sponsorship application - think we're going to do this one rather than the provincial nominee class just because it seems faster at this time.

@amikety; hope you recover soon!
