It also gives you the option to connect on an emotional and intellectual level before even seeing a picture or meeting in person.

I never thought to find a husband, or even a date, online. My DH and I clicked in the intellectual and emotional ways. We talked by phone, then he asked to see my picture, and it was nice to have that distance, no pressure. He also was so sweet to say "If this doesn't work, we can be good friends, and that's ok too". The fact that our ways of thinking meshed so well, and the fact that his parents, and my family, came to this continent from the same country, and lots of other "coincidentals" had us thinking this is a match made in heaven. We both love to read, love the same genre of movies, love going out to restaurants, and really love being in each other's company, even if we are lazing around doing not much of anything. Oh, and we both enjoy those Sudoku puzzles. :D Before I met his family he seemed a bit apprehensive of their acceptance of me, but when I met them, there was an instant bond. I know how to speak the language of "the old country" and hubby doesn't. When I met some of his relatives from that country, we hit it off right away, and one of his cousins and I felt like we were old friends right from the start! I know this isn't something that might happen for anyone on a forum or chatroom. Like I said before, we weren't looking for it, it was the furthest thing from my mind when I was typing away on a forum. But it was truly the best thing that ever happened to me. ;)

That is all that matters and sounds like you did find your "match made in heaven" Usually when we find the "right" ones we aren't looking for it and it can be in unusal places!!

Thank you, I did.. and the night it was in the mail I second guessed so many things.. but like I have heard if something is missing or they have questions they will ask. And to be honest my date to send it seemed to move later and later all the time. But feels good to at least have made some progress, even if it is to join the waiting game with everyone else!

Same happened to me and I can't imagine doing that again. I already hate paperwork and this has been a nightmare to me.

I envied all those who had their partners to help them!!! But my husband knows he owes me BIG time!!!! Since apparently I like paperwork just a little less than he does!

You are not alone. We did ours together but I had to pull teeth to get him to be more proactive.

I certainly would not worry too much Ms Malawi. When we applied, I had no idea about immigration, zilch! I never found this forum until 1 month after we sent our app. I can tell you this though, if I had to redo my application (after the info I know now) I would have made a much much better job of it. I look back now and am glad the process is over but all the time during the application I had so many reservations, thinking they would want additional proofs or send it back incomplete. I am the world's most un-organised person and our application seemed to be fine. So good luck , fingers crossed and hope it is a nice speedy process for you. ;D

Just been skimming through this thread.

Interesting conversation here.

I'd like to recommend a movie for you to watch. It's called "Like Crazy" and it's on Netflix (even the Canadian one). It is about a girl from the UK who goes to the states to study and falls in love. The movie shows the deteriorating relationship because of visa issues. It made me ball my eyes out.
