Well, our file is indeed in LA. Hubby got an email this evening asking for a new FBI check! I'm livid. We sent ours in before it expired so I have no idea why they are requesting a new one. We have 120 days to submit it. We have an email confirmation that they received it well before it expired and he's been here for over a year now. Now much would change on it considering he's been here in Canada and the one we had sent in expired in July. Argh..we sent them an email showing the email we got confirming they received it before the expiry date, I thought they were good for 1 year after they received it...guess not? So much for a quick process...another 6-10 week wait for something they shouldn't need. /sigh. I can't wait for this to be over!

Sounds to me like they're buying time :( We're still not even in process :(

Perhaps I don't understand your timeline - you indicated the FBI letter expired in July (or did you mean 90 day expire, not 1 year expire?)

Sight. That sounds like a real pain. You might consider starting to comply with their request now and at the same time push to figure out why they're being unreasonable and asking for duplicate information.

Thanks a lot ComputerGeek buddy for your reply and support. This is what I have done so far since my last post.

1. I had only paid $550, not rest of $490, so I made a payment of $490 over the weekend. So now they have total RPRF $1040 fees
2. Sent scan copies of my FBI letter and other police clearance certificates (from India) to MP's office
3. MP's office is going to send the newly made payment's receipt and scan copies to CIC today.

Fingers crossed, I will update you guys here if I hear back from them soon.

Good Luck!

We didn't send in an FBI check with our application since my husband's first one we ordered had an error on it. We had sent off a request for a 2nd one which had the correct information on it and it was due to expire in July. We had it into them before the July date it was to expire and have confirmation that they received it since they wrote me a letter stating they did. I don't know why they wouldn't extend it to a year since they had the information while it was valid. Hope that clears that up.

I am preparing for my spousal application. I live in US. I had a question regarding the finger print cards. Is it OK to use the form on the fbi site for finger printing? Thanks.

Yes, you can use that form. My experience is that every professional fingerprint place I've gone to has actual card stock versions of that form and inside the US most of them use live scan these days (so they scan your fingerprints and then print them on to the card.) If you get an extra card ("just in case") they are good for 18 months (that is, the FBI will accept a card that is up to 18 months old).

Thanks so much for the info computergeek! Also do I have to print the form on some card or a normal printing paper will work? If card is necessary where can I get that card? I will be getting the prints in the local police station. Perhaps I should check with them if they carry cards...

It doesn't work too well on plain paper but you can do that in a pinch. You can also do it on card stock. I buy mine from Staples, but pretty much any place that carries stationery would have such a product. I've never done my prints at a police station - I always go to a professional fingerprint place (I've found its cheaper than the police here in Vancouver) and they always have the FBI cards.

Good luck!

Thanks geek! Also what is the turn around time for the fbi clearance? I plan to submit my Spousal application in december...

Last time I ordered it took 6 weeks. Previous two times it was more like 8-10 weeks. If you ordered your PCC today, you should have it back in time to submit in December, but I wouldn't wait too much longer to request it.

Thanks again! Do I also need to get state police clearance?

Well, I fired off an email to my MP's minion on our immigration case. Thankfully he got back to us and requested info on what's going on. I sent him a copy of our sponsorship approval letter stating to send any documents to LA and the email confirmation that LA received the FBI check before it expired.

It's really stupid that those FBI checks are only good for 3 months. By the time you get them, send them in to where you think your file is is 1-2 weeks. By the time they open them, a month has gone by, by the time they join it to your file, another month has gone by. Your lucky if someone stamps them or gets them into your file by the 3 month mark. It's the one thing I regret not sending in with the original file. If the FBI had done their job and not made errors on the 1st FBI check we got, we would have been ok. The things we come across during this process! It makes one wonder if anyone is doing their job!

It would have been helpful if our sponsorship approval letter had the correct information on it as well. Maybe I should have just let those documents sit in LA instead of asking for them to be transferred to Ottawa where our file was. Maybe it would have made a difference, but I think whoever opened them in LA should have stamped them as received or something to lock in that date to confirm they were valid and not expired when they received them. Who knows....
