Hi All,
I am a canadian citizen, staying in montreal. My wife in india got ther visitors visa for 10 years last week(though her PR processing is going on in New Delhi).
I am planning to bring her to canada with visitors visa. Usually a visitor can stay for 6 months, but i heard she can stay for 2 years with visitors visa? Is that true?

2) Once she is in canada, I am planning to apply for her Work permit in Quebec(She already got her CSQ). Is it a legal approach? Becasue i dont want her PR processing to be affected with this(Reason I am doing is, they have increased the PR processing time from 8 month to 16 months this year and its been only 6 months, since i applied).

Please share your thoughts.

1) She will be allowed into Canada as a visitor for up to six months. If you would like her to stay longer, you should apply for an extension to her visit before her stay expires. When you apply for an extension, it's possible they could give you up to a year.
2) She doesn't qualify for a work permit unless she has an approved LMIA and a full time job offer from an employer in Canada. Open work permits are only granted as part of the inland spousal sponsorship process. Since you applied outland, she doesn't qualify. Does she have a job offer from a Canadian employer and an approved LMIA?

Hi scylla,

Thanks for your response. Please find my answers below.

She already got 10 years of visitors visa. Still need to apply for her extension after 6 months of stay?

No. She does not have any Job offer from canadian employer.

Yes - absolutely. A 10 year visitor visa doesn't mean she is allowed to visit Canada for 10 years. If she wants to stay longer than the length of time granted when she enters Canada - she needs to apply for an extension.

In that case she does not qualify for a work permit.
