Sure, you can bring more funds into Canada from India. Principal amount is not taxable. Only taxable for income generated in Canada and if you resident for tax purposes, you are taxable for your world-wide income as well.

At the POE, if you are bringing more than $10,000, remember to declare it on the form!

Qorax Ji,

How are you.
My family has joined me for good in canada ,this week.

My question:
Can i bring further funds into Canada by transferring money from Indai. If yes, then, is this principal amount taxable or only the income generated in Canada out of the principal amount is taxable.
Pls clarify.

Thanks

Hi Steaky,

Thanks for your prompt reply.
Does that mean that i would be any how taxed on the principal amount as the worldwide income would attract tax on the principal amount also.

Thanks

No, if your principal amount doesn't generate any income, there would be no tax.

Dear all,

I am new to this site so would like to get your expert advice regarding proof of funds.

I am doing my landing in mid June and will come back to the UK, where I live, after few weeks due to some commitments. I intend to return to Canada next year. So my question is;
1: If I dont want to bring cash, bankers draft, travellers cheque or money order, can I show my UK bank's statement and perhaps also a letter from the bank as proof of funds at the POE (Toronto) please?
2: Has anybody got any experience with it?
3:What other ways are there to show POF considering I dont have to convert GBP to CAD?
4: How much minimum POFs can I show for a family of 3 (including a 1.5 years toddler) please?

Thanks in anticipation of your help

1. That shouldn't be a prob - as the pps will verify your parentage.
2. As long as u prove that u intend moving further to Ottawa - the BSO @ Toronto a/port would be fine.

Dear all,

We (me and my wife) have completed my landing today by road through Minnesota-Ontario border and the experience was wonderful. Here is the experience -

1) We entered in Canada at 3pm and stopped at the toll. The officer asked us about 1) Our purpose of visit 2) How long we are going to stay in Canada 3) What belongings we have. Then they gave a yellow slip and asked us to park our car in their immigration office. We were having a rental car.

2) We went inside the immigration counter with our docs and submitted the B4/B4A form for our belongings (we didn't had much though). The officer was very helpful and was asking few questions regarding our visit. They have asked for our COPR form and then gave us the kit for "Welcome to Canada".

3) We were carrying 7000 USD each and declared the same to the immigration personals.

4) They have given us the copy of COPR back and mentioned that the PR card will be mailed to the address in 30-60 days. I have provided my friend's address at Toronto, They welcomed us and guided us for the road directions once we are done.

We spent copule of hours in the canadian town and returned to US the same day.

Return to US -

1) The US border officers have asked the same set of questions regarding our job and purpose of visti to Canada.

2) We used AVR (Automatic validation rule) as my wife H1 visa was not stamped but she had her I-797 and I-94 valid.

3) They have asked us to show to the letter from Company who filed H1 and we showed the salary slips as well.

4) After going through all the docs they gave us a new I-94 and we were successfully able to back in US.

The whole experience was smooth. I want to thank all the people in this forum as they were helpful in bringing us to this stage. Now we are back to work in US and will plan to go back to Canada after receiving the PR cards.

Hi Qorax,

I saw a post from someone who just landed that they we're asked how tall they were. What do you think is the purpose on an immigration officer in asking this question and do they really normally ask this?

Thanks!

Thanks Qorax.

Just to get reassurance, what if they didnt accept the statements please? Will they deny me the landing due to lack of funds? Is there any way of getting this confirmed from some officials please?

Regards.

1. That's just an observation - but not advisable.
2. It's wise to bring-in the requisite funds in a Draft &/or Cash 'only'.
3. As per ENF4 [POE Manual] the BSO@POE has directives to deny u entry for lack of funds.
4. U may fetch a draft, but take it back, w/out depositing it in Canada.

Irrelevant to our 'landing'.
Probably the guy was a 7-footer !

Ok thanks a lot for your replies. I might just go the safest way and carry a draft with me.

Thanks again.

1. Yes, u cannot mail/courier your pps abroad from India.
2. U can always send the pps out-of-India [any country for that matter] by hand thru a rep. A family member is much the better.
3. U have to get the PR stamping done before the due date [request for extensions r possible - but that'd seriously delay u].
4. U also have to 'land' before the expiry of the PRVs - else, it's gone for good.
5. Yes, anyone from your family can carry all the pps & get them stamped@Buffalo.
6. He doesn't require a V/visa to enter Canada - that PRV [on his pp] is the entry permit [one-time though].
7. Your daughter can 'land' separately, but not later than the expiry of the PRV on her pp.
8. Like your hubby [anyone for that matter], she also doesn't need another kind of visa to enter Canada.
