Ify,
You are very correct. Pastor Wale has been awesome in his powerful teaching and has been a positive influence on all of us. I attend the same church too.

I have always said it that networking is great and cannot be compared to anything. The more united we are the better for all of us.

Also planning before landing is good. Since the internet is there, you can always get all that you need with little clarifications from other landed forum members.

Hi Tinu,
Regarding your ability to buy a home as a new comer, i know that the canadian govt. has provisions for new comers like a 5% down payment( i think its a gr8 thing becos you can use your money for other needs) and your income at that time is also not used as a qualifier. I will still have to refer you to a website yourmortgageoptions.ca/new_immigrants. It has a lot of information.
I am not an enterpreneur yet, but i know that my Pastor in advising people that want to own gas stations like shell should beware and be very careful about being talked into leasing the franchise and business property from someone who already got the franchise, you stand the danger of loosing in the long run. Y? 1) say you lease for 5years, they will definitely up the amount and give you some stupid terms when you want to renew. And guess what, you have established and commited yourself at that point, you might have no choice but to agree to their terms. 2)Who still owns the property which must have increased in value and franchise, them. So, technically it will be a situation of `monkey dey work and baboon dey chop`. I guess what i am saying is be patient and get your OWN franchise and enjoy d fruits.
In the long run, i think the biggest advice one can give is for you guys not to totally pack up from naija and come to Canada. If oga has a super gr8 job, madam, oga and the kids should come and test the waters first, see what the place is like and opportunities available for him, then oga goes back to naija to his job and continue to strategise while the family here settles in. At least with that, the family won`t run out of money too quick.

My people,

Please i need your advise on this issue. I have a 14 year old cousin leaving with me for some years now. Haven realised she might not be able to go with us on to Canada i decided to file for adoption for her. I filed for adoption about May last year and the court in Abuja finally gave us the go ahead last week.

Am about to forward the paper to CIC to update them on the latest addition to the family but some friends say this might lead to denial of Visa what do you guys think? All the adoption processes are genuine and i dont mind if it leads to delay as long as it would not lead to denial. Truth is we dont plan to leave for Canada until about July next year hence am prepared for a little delay if only to get her to go with us. She has been a good child and closely bonded with my kids and i just cant imagine how she would feel if we go without her.

please dont mind my long story all i want to ask has anyone had any experience with adoption case with Accra if yes please share

Fellow Naijas, and for those of us with young children(infants and toddlers), how are we going to cope in Canada?. Have you guys bothered to find out about this?, school run combined with your work/school. learn't these young children cannot be left at home except if someone 18 yrs and above is with them. Live in Caregivers/nannies, must be paid a minimum wage of $1,300(N201,000) per month, daycare centres $800+(N124,000+). What are our options, anyone with any info/ideas?
Questions like this and follow up comments should feature regularly on our sister thread ' Landed Naija applicants please share your experience' The saying that he who fails to plan plans to fail is relevant here. i expect more responses from seniors particularly landed ones on this issues and similar ones. while we dedicate this thread to matters concerning our application we must bear in mind that the years we will live in Canada far outweighs the number of years spent on applying hence we must do a lot of reseacrh and planning b4 landing so we dont end up in misery God forbid.

For those who read some of my previous post in times past on this thread i have continuously been drawing our attention to life in Canada so we call all plan well for it as for me am taking all issues into consideration from the first moment and would never wait till PR comes before i begin to plan.

bottom line if you have an idea on how we can settled down well in Canada as per kids schooling, job wise, Business, house purchase, credential evaluation, best cities to land etc please share and lets benefit.

Happy Valentine to you all

Glad to hear from you oloye. We appreciate the time spared to put this together and the best part of it is that things are gradually taking shape for you. As an accountant i also very much appreciate the business analysis info. A friend in canada once mentioned it to me and i think its worth giving it a try even while still in naija.

A lot of tuition centers in Abuja now offers the prince 2 and PMP certifications trainings and exam and i guess it wont be a bad idea to start acquiring these skills now.

This is the whole essence of this thread as we get to hear first hand info from our brothers. I trust your family is doing good? we pray God to grant you favor in that land.

My regards
D
Dear Tinuade, it would really be nice to train for it but, i think it is wise for the certification to be from Canada since the cherish their certificates more. Why don't you go online and see if there is any exam from Canada in that field that can be taken.

Presently, any exams to be done should be focused on Canadian Certification
take care

This is a lovely one. Just got to know about it from the sister thread.

I have got an issue as regards mobile. Although i communicate with my family in Canada Via Skype what about the issue of Mobile phone, i have been told that it is very expensive and most people do not have phones at the same time some have also said it is cheap. It would be better if omo naija explains it cos he/she would also be looking at it putting the Nigerian perspective in to consideration. Can some please elucidate on the issue?

Thanks buddy,
I am actually thinking of just acquiring the tuition here as per the certification i believe its a body in Canada that sets and regulate all PMP exams nationwide. For me, am playing with a lot of options and would try and acquire as much academic and financial resources as i can.
I am a chartered Accountant here in Nigeria, i am presently writing ACCA exams and would be done by Dec 2011. I plan to land July 2012 all things be equal and by then i would have done even the PMP so when i land i wont be too restricted to a particular options
