Happy Wednesday everyone,

So i read the manuals (confusing mostly). What I was trying to find was how the process from cic then from the vo. It is 2 separate processes correct? It seems if I am reading correctly, that they check sponsorship requirements again in stage 2. Then all other stuff like medicals, police records, for fraud etc.

Also does Kingston have their own manuals because Kingston doesn't really abide by the time limits etc stated or the way they handle in terms of updating, AORs etc.

CharlieD maybe you can explain better...
Good morning!

Blondie, yes, you have it correctly. The two steps are separate, and yes KG will evaluate the sponsor again. The reason for this is that a sponsor must remain eligible to sponsor for the entire time it takes for a decision to be made on the application, which is essentially when the applicant lands and is granted permanent resident status.

That is why sponsors who are PRs must continue resident in Canada until their spouses land, and that is why citizen/PR spouses who are sponsoring cannot access welfare, declare bankruptcy and so on during the processing time. All these matters of eligibility will again be assessed and if the sponsor is not eligible when the applicant is to receive their visa, even if they were found eligible initially at CPC-M, the applicant will be refused a visa.

As a side note and for example purposes: when I was landing, the immigration officer that processed me said the week before he had to turn someone back because their spouse had begun accessing welfare after his visa was issued but before he landed. So nothing is final until the applicant actually shows up in Canada and has their visa in hand to be examined at the border.

KG will not have a separate manual, but what they will have are local procedures specific to dealing with Jamaicans. Remember that although the operational procedures are the same across the board, how the officers will be able to access the information they need and how quickly they get it will be impacted by local situations. As we all know, Jamaica is the land of "soon come".

There is not a time limit, per se. They have processing standards and guidelines, that is why the manual says they aim to deal with spouses and dependents within 6 months, I think. However, officers will get to a point in dealing with an application whereby they cannot satisfy themselves that the person is admissible to Canada, which is really the entire point of processing an application. At this point, in dealing with family class, they will request an interview. If the interview fails to reconcile their concerns, then they refuse the application.

Question:

I've heard that the sponsorship approval email goes to your junk box, is this the same in the case of everyone?

And how long after do you receive the email, do you receive the hard copy by regular mail?

It depends how your email is set up. If you have a very strict filter that refuses any address you have never received/sent mail from before and sends it automatically to Junk Mail, then an email from CIC would go there. (My email is set up like that, so I check my Junk folder every day to make sure I am not missing something). You might not have it set that strictly, so your email server might "look" at the address and if it sees something recognisable or with a reputable address such as a government-type address, it might not go there but go instead to your Inbox.

If they email you the sponsor approval letter, they do not always send a physical copy. It is hit and miss right now, to guess if you would get one or the other or both. Until CIC is more consistent with how they manage the process, it is anyone's guess.

Good Afternoon Ladies! Hope all is well and so happy to hear you're up and onwards CeeAllen.

Charlie, by evaluating the sponsor again, wouldn't they need to request current info from the sponsor when it approaches the stage to make final decision?

In some cases, yes. It all depends on the initial evaluation. We don't know everything that is passed between the offices once they approve a sponsor, or what information may come to light during their background checks that they may feel warrants further investigation or information. However, they can and do request updated information from sponsors at times.

For example, if you have had a full-time job for many years with a good work history, they may not request updated employment information. However, if the sponsor recently became employed, or has a spotty work history with repeated access to welfare, they might ask for proof of continued employment.

KG generally deals with the applicant. Although my husband was listed on my application as my representative, they never communicated directly with him at all.

Afternoon Ladies,

Hope we're all keeping it together best we can. I just feel something wonderful in the air!! I truly believe that in the near future alot of our files are going to get wrapped up and loved ones sent home :D :D :D
Believe it and you will receive it! I'm trying to look at it this way--I'm alot closer now then I was a few months ago and that's GOOD NEWS!!

My return to Canada has been kind of blah, slowly trying to get back into the swing of things lol. There are a lot of celebrations planned for Jamaica's 50th here in Canada, looking forward to participating in some!

@Anada- I received an email confirmation for sponsorship but no hard copy in the mail. Actually, I remember the email saying that if I chose email as my form of communication then I would not be receiveing any further confirmation in the mail...something like that

Enjoy your day ladies ((hugs))

Thanks Charlie. Good to know - it may be a good idea for me to bring down copies of flights, phone records, and any additional pics since sending the ap and leave it with him in case when they call him, he'll have it ready to submit.

Yup, you can do that, Halfmoon. It is always a good idea to be proactive when it comes to things like gathering and keeping additional evidence. If you don't need it, so be it. If you do need it, you have it to hand without scrambling in a desperate panic for it. It never hurts to be over-prepared, but being under-prepared can have serious consequences when dealing with CIC.

Yes Maam! I would hate for them to ask hubby for additional info and then having to deal with scrambling to mail everything - it'd be wasted time and money when it could be avoided by him having everything in hand.

When you told me about your dogs last night, I was chuckling because I had asked my husband before when in JA if the dogs would only understand patois? It was a silly joke but when you think about it, it's true? hehe
