Hello again...

Thought of a few more questions.

Have any of u recently applied for a visitors visa in Kingston?
would love it if my guy could come visit before we get married but
from what I've heard it can be very difficult to get the TRV.

If we do decide to apply, is it better to say he is visiting me as a friend? A boyfriend? Or a fiancé?
Don't really want to lie.... But wondering what the best chance for success is?

He is 27 years old. Never married. No kids. No house or property. No car.
Works full time as a computer programmer in Jamaica for a US based company.
He went to the US in 2008 on a single entry visitors visa, and then again in
2009 on a student visa (went to college there for 3 years).

Anyone have any guesses/insight on what his chances might be? Do u think it's worth the hassle and the money to try?
Back in April, hubby and I - we weren't married yet at that point and so didn't have an application in, applied for a TRV for him as we really were hoping that he could come meet my kids here before we got married. Long story short, he was denied for a couple reasons - no ties to Jamaica (meaning he owns no property, no car, no real significant savings, etc) and even though he is and continues to be employed full time and that he had previously had 2 visitor's visa to the USA for work, they did not believe given that I was here that he would return to Canada when his TRV expired or that he would have enough money to support himself while in Canada. We didn't say that we were planning to get married, if I remember correctly, we just said we were friends.....but they can read between the lines!

Not saying it can't happen, cuz you never know, but this was my experience!

Hope this helps......was super hard news to take when he was denied, I dropped my phone on the floor and cried when hubby bbm'd me to tell me....when he started out with.....you know that I love you no matter what.......I knew it was bad news

since he has travel already and return to the island that will show he will return from Canada on a visitor visa. so just go on the site and fill out the form that's needed and try don't see why he wouldn't get it,all they want is a reason for him to come back.
We hoped for the same thing.....however, we were told that this isn't even really considered and that at the time that my hubby travelled for work he had nothing in the states keeping him there, where he has me to keep him here.

Oh boy, I was turned down for a trv also, I cried. Lol. Funny how I'm a pr now eeh? Lol, patience is the key. Anyhoo, when my fiance was applying I let him get a job letter, bank statement ( we pooled our funds together in his account,$280,000 Jmd), his teaching diploma, passport and birth certificate. I think its far better to give them way more than they ask for. That way you can answer all questions that they might have. Still, after all that, they sent back his package without a visa and asked for him to send info as to how much leave he is entitled to. He had to take the day off from work, the whole process took over four months to get the visa. I should have told him to get a police record also. Anyway, anyone else here I suggest sending educational certificates, land or vehicle or house titles, bank statements, job letter, childrens birth certificates and even police records.

So sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I wished that someone had of told us in advance. I have to say that while it was devastating to be denied, in the long run, it ended up being good for our relationship. I think that the harder the things you have to deal with, the stronger your relationship is.....

Having all that house, job, own business, money, education, land, vehicle and even police record don't mean you will get. This is my own experience; the first time i tried for a TRV i was tooo happy in love and left out a few things off the form i got a call from a someone at the embassy asking for at the time my 'girlfriend' address which was clearly there already,i told her and she told me i should do over the form and try to answer all the check list on the paper, when your denied a TRV they send you a checklist of reasons,so the second time i made sure that everything was checked and rechecked, send it in this time smiling because i think i did a good job, i was denied again; why because i didn't travel before. you spend all your all your life going through a system of life to built yourself in your own country yet they deny you for not traveling before, how can you travel without getting a visa'
when i got back the checklist this time of the possible 25 reason reason they can deny you, i was denied for not traveling before.

Awwww, thanks Sam! :-*

Hubby and I are having a wonderful time together. We can't believe how quickly the week has gone by and we're going to enjoy our last day of this trip to the fullest! Hubby's reaction to my surprise visit was priceless. Shhh...don't tell anyone...he cried after the initial shock wore off. ;)

It seems as though things have been a little too quiet for our little forum family. Come on Kingston, ring our phones!!!!!

Welcome to the newbies! :D

Type to you all soon. :-*

Hey peeps

The biggest thing to remember about applying for the TRV is that the applicant needs to prove he has bigger reasons to return to JA then to stay in Canada. They assume the applicant will run away and not return so the applicant needs to prove why he won't. And remember that whatever information you give them now in a TRV application can be referenced later during a PR application. It is a hard thing to do but it totally worth it if you are successful. Good luck.

Xx

Good afternoon forum family, I see KG has gone silent on us again. Welcome to all the mewbies and congrats to those that have heard some news. We applied for a TRV a couple times as well and were rejected due to lack of ties to JA. We were able to get multiple TRV for friends that came up at xmas. They had secure ties with jobs, business and children that they had to go back for. So coco don't get your hopes up as a pretty slim chance that you'll actually get one, although it never hurts to try. Actually it can go to prove you want to be together and a TRV can make it happen quicker. Just don't set yourself up for disappointment if you're turned down, most of us have been there.
All these anniversaries reminded me of the following:

Bob was in trouble. He forgot his wedding anniversary. His wife was
really pissed.

She told him "Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in 6 seconds AND IT BETTER BE THERE !!"

The next morning he got up early and left for work. When his wife woke up, she looked out the window and sure enough there was a box gift-wrapped in the middle of the driveway.

Confused, the wife put on her robe and ran out to the driveway, brought the box back in the house.

She opened it and found a brand new bathroom scale.

Bob has been missing since Friday.
