Hello everyone, Myself and my husband (who has already rec'd his PR card and we live in T.O) are currently in the process of sponsoring my step daughter in Jamaica. We got notification about a month ago that we were accecpted as her sponsors (took 3 months from time we sent in her file to get approved) and now her file has been sent off to Jamaica for processing. My question is approx how long does this part take before we hear anything? I was looking at the website and it said about 16 months which seems absurd to me. Our little angel lives in Kingston with my hubbys parents and she's really missing us and wanting to be here. I feel so bad for making her wait so long, she just turned 6 and has never had a stable home. I hate the fact that these files take so long to be processed, sad actually :(

Good morning! Congrats to Dahlia, go and plan that reunion and get the mister home on the double! ;D

Hey Admirable! *waves*

Yep, LHNB, it's almost like tomorrow. Everything is up in the air right now, I am anxious for the time to pass quickly, and not so anxious, LOL. I want to get settled in my new home, because I dislike the out of place feeling I have to endure until then, and I am also going to be sad leaving my mother and my brother. They are being so great, helping with everything, and making sure they are upbeat and positive for me, even though they told me it's hard for them to have me go so far away. My mother jokingly said she is tired of pushing me out of the nest and having me come back to her, she sincerely hopes this is the last time she needs to do it! :P

Welcome, jamaicansgirl, do stick and stay! :) Children are prioritised like spouses, and the beauty of a young child is they have no background or criminality to be investigated, so it should go quickly. Estimate an outside time of 6 months, I should think.

Thanks Charlie, 6 months I could live with, but 16 (est. time on the website) would be very hard as our SD needs to have her dad finally be with her. He's been here since she was 4 months old, the first time he saw her since then was Sept'11 when we went for a week and it was so hard for us to leave. She cried so much and it broke our hearts.

16 months is the outside limit on the website, but as you can see from our update list, for spouses it can go even longer. However, the one child sponsorship we have had was concluded in about 7 months (MommyT). As I said, with no background and no criminal checks to be done, a child sponsorship is fairly straightforward, and KG will only be interested in the legality of the relationship and then it's just to get the visa inserted. :)

In the meanwhile, busy yourselves getting things organized to welcome her home to you: room, school, activities, making up for time apart, all that fun stuff.

CONGRATS DAHLIA!!!

WELCOME JAMAICANSGIRL!!

HEY ADMIRABLE!

Morning forum Fam!

Home today with a sick lil boy. But, I do love cuddling with him, it is much better than being at work:)

I, like Charlie, also believe that children will go through quicker than spouses. After all, preliminary checks would have been done at the time you sponsored your husband, right? Good luck in reuniting your family! So Charlie, thought that I read awhile ago that you are leaving on June 2. Am I right? If so, you are very close! How exciting! Hope you enjoy your last week of yawd life and much needed time spent with family!
Going back to cuddle with Jahmahri and watch Labrynth, one of my child favorites... he loves this movie!

Welcome jamaicasgirl … I just went through the process to sponsor my stepdaughter and her dad all in same process.
They arrived in Canada two weeks ago it took 5 months for the both of them to get approved as long as you sent in all the proper information to immigration it should not be a long wait. When doing my application we sent in her birth certificate, a consent letter from the mother (even though she was living with my husband and she was not a part of her life) she did the medical as CharlieD said there was no need for a police background check,…make sure her/his immunization record is up to date and provide all information that immigration asks for and you should be fine. You already have approval from the Canadian side so the hard part is over since these days that seems to the longest part of the journey….kgn is on a roll reuniting families…. There are some situations that seems to be taking longer than others and in that case all you can do is keep hope… I was lucky to get through as fast as I did but take heed …. As I was informed children are practised above all other cases with kgn
Good luck on your journey
My prayers go out to all who are still waiting for reuions …a little inspirational though that used to get me through the day when I was missing my little family something fierece

Yep, very close, and very exciting! :D I am making sure to enjoy my last week, got a few things planned with friends and family to make the most of it. :)

Thanks guys, as far as I know we have everything requested to complete her application. Even managed to get her mother to sign the consent and have it notorized ;)
Your right, each day should be happier for me cause it's one day closer to having our family complete. Being a part of this thread will def help cause it's so nice and refreshing hearing all the positive stories of families being reunited. Going through immigration precess can be so stressful, it's nice to have people to talk to that can relate to my feelings.

God bless everyone!
