Applying in-mail or in-person at Service Canada (not passport office) are roughly the same, theoretically speaking, in terms of processing time, although I think via Service Canada they are more credible because they give you a max date to expect the passport at. The only efficient way to get your passport IMO is by having a ticket as a proof of travel in less than 25 business day and apply via passport office, even if it means you delay applying for your passport. If you show them a ticket they treat you VIP. Some applicants got it in 5 hours. Otherwise, your application will take forever, although they claim it takes 20 business, which is just a big fat lie. In all cases don't mail in. At least you will keep your original certificate if you apply at Service Canada. This option wasn't allowed when I applied. After 40 days, I don't have the passport and I don't have the certificate. Basically there is nothing with me proves I am Canadian right now, which is a terrifying thought  Besides reaching them is a pain. Terrible experience.
Ok. Good luck. The last leg of task. Hopefully it comes in a week.

For me, different problem hence postal would be easier even if it takes time.
Issue: Moved to US. Will be coming to windsor from detroit for oath and returning on same day.
So i will be applying via post since i dont know if i can travel just with citizenship certificate like him https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-i...ith-passport-in-3-hours.763369/#post-10028710.

How's life in Windsor? I'm thinking about moving.
Its ok. Small place if one stayed at big city which is the only major difference. Rest is ok as i was not working there since i was commuting to detroit hence dont know much other side of work life.

Same plan. Heading to USA for jobs.

I think you can cross the land border with the certificate, but if you are working in the US, and you know you will be staying there for at least 3-4 months, then applying via post after you receive the certificate from someone in Canada may not be a problem for you. I assume you have USA VISA, so even you have to leave USA to any other place but Canada (because you won't have the certificate) you will fine to return to the USA. For me though, I was planning to leave Canada the end of April. My certificate is in custody. So, I cannot now leave and apply from outside, for example. I thought the process from inside Canada is easier, which isn't. I read someone in Austria applied for the first passport in the embassy and got it in a week. Go figure.

Doesn't make any sense...But maybe the workload overseas is much smaller.

It doesn't. Maybe the application is examined in the embassy, but the passports are printed in Canada, as far as I know, not in the embassy. I don't know, the whole process doesn't make any sense to me.

You are right. I dont have any travel issues and being in US with valid visa for any travel outside without going via Canada.
I missed out that your certificate is also locked up which is avoiding you to use land crossing while returning. Correct. Good luck. When is your trip coming up?

Thanks. My travel is the end of April. I cannot use land crossing because I don't have a valid US VISA. But if I had my certificate, at least I would have the option of applying for the passport from outside Canada if I was staying long enough to get the passport. Now, I am under Passport Canada's mercy.

I don’t really think so. Mine was closed and after a week I called the call centre. I was told the certificate is not printed yet though my application is closed. This is my experience.
