Hello,
Thank you for your interest in Canada.
Please be informed that we are awaiting the results of some internal processing prior to the finalization of your application. As a result, the assessment period will be outside of our posted processing times. At this time, there is nothing that is required on your part. Your continued patience is greatly appreciated.
The best regards,

Now, I’m aware security checks haven’t commenced. What could these internal checks be (given SS is outside the immediate mandate of CIC; hence is possibly an external check) that are holding up my application? I mean cmon, as Alice in Wonderland would say, it’s getting ‘curioser and curioser’!
I got similar timeline as that of yours and I got similar reply today. I'll recommend to apply for gcms or atip if you're inside Canada.Thank you for contacting Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
We verified the information provided and can confirm that your application is still in process.
While the processing times may vary with each case, we will make all the necessary efforts to finalize your application as soon as possible.
Rest assured that we will communicate with you once a decision is taken.
We hope the information provided is helpful in assisting you with your enquiry.

How so very unfair on their part. I sent them an email asking them about the "unusual delay" in my application on Dec 22nd. They didn't have the courtesy to send this to me. (Joking, I would rather prefer they send me the PPR, directly )Ok guys, just got a mail from CPC-CTD-ottawa@cic.gc.ca today (I sent the mail on 19th Dec):
