Hi everyone, thanks for all the support through this past year. i just did my landing yesterday, everything went smooth. For anyone who is in Alberta and thinking of going to Carway or Coutts for landing, I would recommend Coutts. They have a designated counter for immigration purposes. So i picked a Sunday morning of a long weekend to do my landing. A few things you have to consider before going to any Canada-US border: I would not recommend going on a Friday or a Saturday, as there may be a lot of travelers and you may end up waiting in queue for hours. The process took me hardly 35-40 minutes. When you get to the border crossing, you will be on the US side. Have your passport ready and tell them that you are here to do your immigration landing. The officer will keep your password and will ask you to park your car and come to the office or lobby. After about 5-10 minutes an officer will announce your name and hand you a US visa refusal letter and ask you to present this to the Canadian officials. After that they will escort you to the Canadian side. You basically get in your car and take a u-turn and you will be entering Canada now. Once you get to the booth, the officer will ask you some basic questions like where are you coming from and if you are carrying any weapons or such. Also, if you did stop and buy anything at the duty-free shop. After watching so many shows on border security I was careful to check my car before I left my house to do my landing. I would recommend you give you car a complete wash and make sure you have nothing suspicious in your car. If you are renting one or borrowing one, still do the same thing. After answering the questions, you will be asked to park your car again and come to the Canadian office or lobby this time. Make sure you are carrying your passport, conformation of PR letter (two copies) and any valid permits. My case was a little different, my work permit expired in November last year but i had applied for an extension in October last year. If you are in the same boat don't worry, just carry your receipt of work permit application and present that. Tell them that your are under implied status and they will do the rest. Once you are at the counter you will be asked to hand these documents and take a seat. Depending on how busy they are this will be your longest wait. In my case it took them about 20 minutes to do a background check, I guess. The officer will call your name again and ask you write down your current address, so that they can mail you your PR card. Also, you will be asked to read through your COPR letter and make sure all the details about you are correct. I was told to take a seat again and after 5-10 minutes, I was called at the counter and the officer handed me my documents and a signed COPR letter. That is it, you are a Permanent Resident now. Your PR card will be mailed to you in about 90 days. All you gotta do now is get your Social Insurance number changed and your health card changed (Health card if it has expired, in my case it did). I would also recommend going to your bank and update them with your status as they might be holding back on you because you were not a permanent resident and most important let your employers know as well. I wish everyone good luck and a safe drive and a big Thank you.
