Hi everyone, thanks for all the support through this past year. i just did my landing yesterday, everything went smooth. For anyone who is in Alberta and thinking of going to Carway or Coutts for landing, I would recommend Coutts. They have a designated counter for immigration purposes. So i picked a Sunday morning of a long weekend to do my landing. A few things you have to consider before going to any Canada-US border: I would not recommend going on a Friday or a Saturday, as there may be a lot of travelers and you may end up waiting in queue for hours. The process took me hardly 35-40 minutes. When you get to the border crossing, you will be on the US side. Have your passport ready and tell them that you are here to do your immigration landing. The officer will keep your password and will ask you to park your car and come to the office or lobby. After about 5-10 minutes an officer will announce your name and hand you a US visa refusal letter and ask you to present this to the Canadian officials. After that they will escort you to the Canadian side. You basically get in your car and take a u-turn and you will be entering Canada now. Once you get to the booth, the officer will ask you some basic questions like where are you coming from and if you are carrying any weapons or such. Also, if you did stop and buy anything at the duty-free shop. After watching so many shows on border security I was careful to check my car before I left my house to do my landing. I would recommend you give you car a complete wash and make sure you have nothing suspicious in your car. If you are renting one or borrowing one, still do the same thing. After answering the questions, you will be asked to park your car again and come to the Canadian office or lobby this time. Make sure you are carrying your passport, conformation of PR letter (two copies) and any valid permits. My case was a little different, my work permit expired in November last year but i had applied for an extension in October last year. If you are in the same boat don't worry, just carry your receipt of work permit application and present that. Tell them that your are under implied status and they will do the rest. Once you are at the counter you will be asked to hand these documents and take a seat. Depending on how busy they are this will be your longest wait. In my case it took them about 20 minutes to do a background check, I guess. The officer will call your name again and ask you write down your current address, so that they can mail you your PR card. Also, you will be asked to read through your COPR letter and make sure all the details about you are correct. I was told to take a seat again and after 5-10 minutes, I was called at the counter and the officer handed me my documents and a signed COPR letter. That is it, you are a Permanent Resident now. Your PR card will be mailed to you in about 90 days. All you gotta do now is get your Social Insurance number changed and your health card changed (Health card if it has expired, in my case it did). I would also recommend going to your bank and update them with your status as they might be holding back on you because you were not a permanent resident and most important let your employers know as well. I wish everyone good luck and a safe drive and a big Thank you.

Landed today at CIC office in Etobicoke, Ontario.

I got DM on 25th, COPR in mail on 29th (Friday) and called to book an appointment the same day.
I received email with appointment date & time 3 business days later and the appointment was just week and a half away.

So if anyone tells you have to wait months for an appointment it's bullshit, at least in GTA - COPR to landing: 17 days for me.

Landing itself took 15 minutes for me and my common law partner (after 30 minute wait). Service Canada is in the same building, so 50 minutes later (40 of that waiting) we both got new SIN numbers.

I did not know that you can land in Etobicoke. I live in GTA as well. Can you please advise of the process and how to go about it ?

thanks

Etobicoke (5353 Dundas Street West) CIC office handles in-land "landing" for most of GTA.

Call the same number you would for your PR application status: 1-888-242-2100 - I don't remember which options I've selected, but it was pretty straightforward to figure the right ones.
Once you get the agent tell him/her that you'd like to schedule an appointment to validate COPR (or PR Visa if you need one). They'll ask you the basic information needed to verify your identity + your current address + how long is the COPR/Visa valid for (if it's less than 2 months you can ask for urgent processing). Once you confirm the CIC office you'd like to use (based on your current address) the agent will let you know that this office will be contacting you about a date when you'll be able to "land". I had to wait just 3 business days to get the appointment confirmation.

Hi,

I just would like to update that I got ready for visa email on Feb 9th. I went for a month vacation and came back today and found that surprising email was waiting in my inbox.

Planning to send my passports for visa stamping today. Can you please advise approximately how long it will take to receive passport with visa stamped.

I am also planning to do in-land landing at Etobicoke center. Can I call and book an appointment while waiting for my passport.

Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Everyone ! Finally I got my passport request yesterday (June 23rd applicant) I have a little question though - I'm on a open work permit currently, that is not stapled in my passport. Shall I staple it in before sending ? Or it does not matter.

Thanks

Hi Everyone!!

Landed on Saturday at the Coutts border here in Alberta. It was an extremely quick and painless process. Very straightforward. We drove up to the US border officer, he asked us what we were there for, we told him we were there to land. He directed us inside where we were issued a letter stating we were refused entry into the United States. From there we had to follow an officer in our vehicle where he lead us to do a U-turn to head back to the Canadian border. Again, they asked us what we were there for and directed us inside where we were the only ones there for landing purposes. There was a very nice immigration officer inside who helped us. She basically just went through all of my boyfriends documents and information, made him verify the correct spelling and DOB on the COPR, she asked him if he had any copies of his old work permits, which he did, she confiscated them and destroyed them, gave him a piece of paper to read through while we waited for her to get his documents in order. She called him up and read through all of the information, advised him of his rights as a permanent resident, he signed some papers and she stapled his certificate of permanent residency to the back of his passport and we were on our way. The whole process took approx. 30-40 minutes. We were a bit concerned that we'd run into issues since he left Canada in December for a trip while he was out of status, as well as the fact he was waiting for restoration but there was no complications at all. The drive out there took 3 hours but it was well worth it!

Goodluck to everyone!

Congratulations Kothem :) Finally your wait is over . May I know when your medicals are done, how long are they valid.
Did you ever request GCMS notes.
I called them today and CIC told me same old story that your back ground check is going on.
too much frustrating.
