@sam001 - i am wondering if our work permit and PR application will be processed with the timeline which was present when we applied or current timeline? I presume when we applied for work permit in August, the timeline was 92 days and 148 now. What is your view on this?
You should consider the current timeline and it's never "a timeline to process with". The posted estimate is the current average of applications.

My view is whatever “lord” IRCC officer wants to consider. If the current processing time is 148, I am 100% sure, when you call they will say you are still within the 148 days. I bet PR will come before WP

Hello all,

I applied as Inland applicant under Family Sponsorship. Currently I am on work permit and its expiring in January 2025. I have few questions about it.

1. Under which stream should I apply for work permit extension? SOWP
2. Do I need to complete IELTS to apply for work permit under new rules?
3. Will the new work permit be of 4 months as bridge or as open work permit of different duration?

For context -I applied in September, and received AOR and Biometrics request on October 4th and 5th simultaneously. Haven’t received anything else after.

Thanks.

1. You should apply for SOPW and it’s not an extension of your current WP
2. No, new rule only applies to PGWP
3. Usually SOPW will be valid for 2 years
What is your current work permit by the way? CWP? PGWP? OWP?
If I were you I will apply for SOPW right away.

You do not apply for an extension. You apply for a new OWP (I don't know the exact link/steps). Since you still have valid work permit and have received AOR for spousal sponsorship and you are inside Canada, you can apply for OWP.
After you applied and until you receive the OWP decision (most cases will be approval), you are on implied/maintenance status and can continue to work.

no IELTS for OWP for spousal sponsorship needed. I heard most people get 2 years or so OWP.

Then, I also received an update on the GC key account, saying it was an Invitation to Pre-arrival services on 8 August 2024.

Then, I didn't receive an update for a couple of days, and in the meantime, I applied for a work permit on 18 August 2024 which was approved on 27th Sept 2024.

Then I received one mail with a letter and inside the letter was something like this on 20th Aug 2024 :

Date: August 20, 2024
UCI: XXXXXXXXXXX
Application: XXXXXXXXXXX - INLAND SCLP
PA Name & Address

This refers to the Application for Permanent Residence you made under the Spouse or Common-
Law Partner in Canada Class.

It has been determined that you meet the eligibility requirements to apply for permanent residence
as a member of the spouse or common-law partner in Canada class. Please note that a final
decision will not be made until all remaining requirements for becoming a permanent resident
have been met. These requirements include medical, security, and background checks for you
and, if applicable, all of your family members, both in Canada and abroad, even if they are not
applying to join you in Canada at this time. You cannot become a permanent resident until you
and all your family members have met these requirements.
IMPORTANT: Passports for yourself and your family members must be valid for the duration of
your stay in Canada. If you or your family member(s) have updated your passport, please submit
a copy of your new passport as soon as possible.

.....
.....

I am not sure what is this letter about, Can someone please help to understand what is this letter about and what will be the next step?

What is more, I see my Eligibility and biometric is done on the application status checker Medical has not started and the Background check is in progress.

Since you will finish your study in Dec and isn't registered for another program/course to come back. Your study permit is not really valid (your school is supposed to report that you finished your program) till Sept 2025. Also as another member pointed out already, you are required to live with your spouse inside Canada if you applied inland.

If you are leaving for a 3 months trip, you are not really considered living with your spouse inside. Do you have a valid TRV?
If you have received AOR of your spousal sponsorship application, you can apply for OWP. In that case, if you get the OWP approval before you leave for India, your chance of coming back and allow entry is higher. (assuming that you have valid TRV to travel back)

So, my suggestion so to apply for OWP if you get AOR and consider shorten your trip to a few weeks instead of months. Make sure you have valid TRV to return.
I am somewhat in a similar boat,

Currently, on work permit, I got based on an Inland application but I and my wife need to go to our home country for a month. thing is our timing will be odd as most likely when we are in our home country I will get a final decision. any suggestions?

This is AIP. You can apply for OHIP now if you dont have one. Congratulations. This is the biggest milestone in this whole process. Now you wait for medical and PPR

If you have a spousal application in process and has received the AIP, you are eligible for OHIP without working. So you just need this email, application number and other required documents for OHIP, visit a service ontario, you should be good.

It will be a problem if you applied inland. If you applied outland, then you can just notify IRCC and get PPR in home country instead of getting the portal for virtual landing.

Or you may be able to defer virtual landing by notifying IRCC and wait till you return. Do you have TRV to return? (Sorry I didn't check all your previous posts)

Thanks for the update,
I applied inland. I have a TRV, which I applied after PGWP and is valid for the next couple of years, and do have an open work permit based on this Spousal sponsorship application valid till 2026.

Is it normal to receive the Biometrics request and don’t receive request for medical after 2.5 weeks? I read some posts and its usually within timeframe of week or so.
