You will love Nova Scotia !!
Very friendly... ocean right here...

How could I have forgotten to mention the ocean and the resultant cracking seafood. If you like seafood, NS is one of the best places for it. ;D

Thank you guys! I am sure it will be great the exchange from a crazy big city to a place like Halifax-NS.
Looking forward for getting there, to be with my beloved husband and to meet friendly people! :D

And eat a lot of shrimp, lobster and scallops! :P

Yeah, get to Digby for the scallops. Where do you intend settling?

My husband is already at where we're gonna live together in Clayton Park West, Halifax, which I know only from Google street view ;D

I think Halifax is nice place to visit and study only. other than that there is very low opportunities here.I suggest all new comers to head calgary because what I have heard from my friend permanent residents get lots of benefits. If you go to language school and you score above 5 then you get allowances of of 1735 after that if you want to go to college to upgrade class or take course they provide you funding. Whoever has started life in calgary they have move forward in their careers as compared to Halifax Nova Scotia.

My suggestion for everyone to go to Calgary....

All the PRs flooding to Calgary have driven the rent up signficantly. It's becoming super expensive here.

Depends what sector you wish to work in. Halifax's economic figures compare very favourably to the rest of the country, and are clearly to be read separately to the Nova Scotia figures.

And, erm, how to put this... I am not sure anyone should move to another country so they can claim benefits.

Convenient to all amenities... Lot's of seafood to be found in the city... but a nice drive to Digby
I am sure you will love NS

I agree 100%... Not everyone needs the big cities
The economy is healthy in Halifax
And the city offers plenty

Anyway I never got to pick the city I am going to in Canada and I never cared. The reason I am going is to be with my husband, so I'll be where he is... :)

Ditto - although as far as it goes, Calgary works for me. Rednecks, hicks, etc. Normal life for the southerner........ :D

PS: There are real rednecks in Calgary. Except me.

Amikety, I see you know a lot about Canada so you must be the sponsor...?
I am wondering what are the grounds to be considered a redneck in Canada? Just curious! I asked my husband but didn't get a satisfying answer...

No, I'm the applicant. I'm an American. I lived in the Deep South/Bible Belt for 10 years, where men wore camo overalls on a daily basis as normal clothing and work boots were basic footwear. I don't see much redneck about Calgary. It's a bunch of city slickers with their fancy haircuts and name brand shoes. Not very redneck to me.

Your description of the deep south rednecks made me laugh! Hey, I just realize that I maybe I'm married to one and I don't even know it! :P
