Once it is marked processing everything goes fast at least from what I've seen. My question is why would they ask you for so much proof and not us, I'm also on disability and sponsored my husband. We explained our situation but never had to show proof of it. I guess it's just luck of the draw, or past history or something? It sure seems to be inconsistent from what I've read.
Another thing is some people aren't getting that condition 51 on their COPR's even though they've been married less than a year. We've been together 9 years and married 2 but got that condition (not that it makes any difference, I'm really just curious about how things work).
Yeah, it really does seem like luck of the draw. I understand completely why they don't want to bring in people that might be a strain on the system. I did extensive research and asked all over everywhere about disability stuff and what one had to prove. I was shocked and a bit frustrated when I received the email about showing my financials in October. I was already 9 months into the wait at that point (and I submitted and paid everything as early as possible). It seems it is most commonly asked for in cases where red flags have come up. But I did everything I could to put all the employment records I had for the last 5 years (that took 6-7 weeks). It's taken them another 10 months now.
I just wonder if it comes down to the officer and their interpretation of red flags. I was a student part of the time I was up here. My wife is on ODSP/disability. We're young-ish (late 20s, early 30s) but we also got married 4 and a half years ago and have dated for 6 years. My wife's health goes up and down a bit and has been a cause of periods of time when I haven't been able to work full time but we also live on a fairly small budget which is fine. I'm well-educated (through the Canadian education system, BSc. in Neuroscience and a graduate certificate in Environmental Sustainable Systems) and have worked a variety of jobs including running a family business and being an assistant manager in a retail store, here in Canada.
Same with the condition 51 rule. That just seems odd in your case, Aquakitty, that that would apply at all. I'm pretty confident that we could win an appeal if it came to that (over financials/ability to support myself), but I just don't want that extra hassle. Time is now at a stand still and this needs to resolve itself in order to make any decisions about the future.
