Hi Han,
Congrats on your IELTS score. I am taking it in the next few months.
Did you use the material available online to prepare? Any tips?
I have learned English on my own and need to score CLB 9.
Thanks!
I studied IELTS books, I think there are 10 or 11 of them out! I also used youtube for more listening practice.
It wasn't easy, I took IELTS three times to get the scores I needed.
Good luck,

Its called Emerging economies or developing countries.
Yeah right, fancy words for *censored word*, corrupt and sometimes communist countries where no one plays by the rules. If they are really emerging and prosperous economies, why so many of us are trying to immigrate here?

I do not claim fake companies do not exist but international students seem to be focused more on preventing others from coming to Canada than fighting their case. For example, now, you want more stringent rules for outside applicants while life should be made easier for international students.
No one is preventing you from immigrating here. Life is definitely not easy for a majority of int'l students in a foreign country.

We already have to get ECA done, get proof of funds and get high IELTS score and 3 years job experience to stand a chance. It took me over a month to get my proof of funds cos banks here do not understand why the information is needed. My company here also struggled to give me letter of employment. I almost gave up on submitting my application. The whole process is already stressful and time consuming.
Who doesn't have to do those things ? who aren't stressful? Do you know that in some countries they still have military conscription where you have to waste 2 years of your life doing jackshit but losing your precious time, skills and knowledge? I'm under 30, so as long as I'm back in my country. They will send me a ticket straight to the army, and we don't even have an legitimate ongoing war like Korea, it's just a government scheme to lower the unemployment rate of young people.

Not punished, but if they want to claim those working exp, they have to prove the company they were working for are legit. If a Canadian company needs to jump through many hoops to probe that they are legit, then foreign companies need to comply as well. How come all foreign degrees need to be assessed but not job exp? since they can claim at least 25 points for that (before multiplying with language skill).

Ex: - applicant with perfect ielts score, bachelor degree (canadian or eca), 1 year working experience in Canada : 444 points
- applicant with perfect ielts score, bachelor degree (canadian or eca), 1 year working experience in Canada and 3 years foreign work experience (unverifiable) : 494 points
There is no perfect system in the world and blaming the systems won't increase your scores. It would be very difficult for IRCC to validate foreign work experience as the tax system in developing countries isn't as robust and straightforward as it is in north America or probably Europe!

That's why we need to voice our opinions and show them the weak points of the system (a typical example from our own forum). I don't expect any changes to improve the current situation of intl't students, so I'm doing my best to maximize my score.

Good luck,
Thanks Han,

I have taken the General IELTS just once (more than 2 years ago). I got 8.5 on speaking, 7.5 on reading, 7.5 on writing, and 7.5 on listening.
I need to increase my listening score (in order to get a Band 8 on this skill, we need to get at least 35 out of 40 questions). And that is really hard!!!
It is good that the General is much easier than the Academic module (I never scored more than 7.5 on listening on my academic tests either). Listening and speaking are basically the same on both exams though.

I want this PR so bad that I won't give up until I get it. :)
I am finishing my 3rd degree here in Canada and will be able to get a 3 years work permit after I graduate (I also have 4 years work experience
- from back home - under NOC A). The thing is that I feel the need to start working towards my residency from now on. I don't want to be desperate with deadlines.
I won't take CELPIP because there is not much material to study. I guess I feel more comfortable with IELTS.
I will take the exam and will be back to let you guys know about my score! :)

It was already discussed several times. TFWs and international students have additional points for Canadian experience, and usually better points for English, since they live in English-speaking environment.

International students have options to apply through provincial streams. Note that Canadian studies is not an official way to immigrate, but PGWP gives you a nice opportunity to get additional points for Canadian work experience if you want to apply for federal program.

Moreover, TFW on regular work permit with LMIA get additional 600 points, so they're in better position then they were before EE.

I was a TFW myself, applied for FSW Inland, got PR in ~6 months. But yet I believe there's no need for separate draw for CEC. EE is well balanced and fair system, and honestly it works pretty well.
What happens to international students who are working on PGWP in Alberta? With a B.Eng, full-job, and 8.0 IELTS score, I only got 441 points. I have the Alberta nomination but it does not give me the 600 points in the express entry system. My employer cannot apply for LMIA as it is very costly to them and almost impossible to be positive in this job market. I have lived in Canada over 6.5 years now and still can't make it to the min scores required to get an ITA. It would be great if they can assign more points to international students on PGWP.

I feel you. Yes, listening is difficult. I did 4-5 listening tests every day for a week before my IELTS exam. You need to know some tricks. For some questions, you should write down some key words while the person is talking and then decide which answer to choose. I hope you are lucky and you get an easy one.

All the best,
My IELTS score is L: 9, R: 9, W: 7, S:7

I gave IELTS 2 times and scored 8.5 or 9 in Listening/Reading in both of them (though writing and speaking have been a pain). One thing I found effective to tackle Listening is to read questions in advance. The time you get for review after each section (half min), try to read questions of next section. If you know the questions, then finding answer during conversation is easier. In short, what ever extra time you get (while not listening to conversation), try to read the next questions.
