Dear All,

We are Canadian PR card holders currently living outside Canada, and we have a few questions regarding our newborn, who was born outside of Canada:

  1. What is the process for bringing our newborn to Canada? Is a visitor visa the only option?
  2. Can we sponsor our newborn while we are still outside Canada?
  3. If a visitor visa is a viable option, should we use the GCKey portal to submit the application?
Thank you for your assistance!

1. Yes.
2. No. One parent must be in Canada to apply.
3. Yes. If TRV is refused then one parent must move to Canada and apply. If approved make sure you have good health insurance for your child because child has no access to health and social services until PR.

Hello,

Could you also please assist me with the below? They are asking for the purpose of travel for my daughter, what exactly should I put here? Because they are asking for a copy of flight ticket for her from her return flight.
----------------------------------
Document: Purpose of Travel - Other
You must submit proof that you are coming to Canada for a temporary visit.
Examples of what you can provide as proof:
A scanned copy of:
  • Your flight ticket departing Canada,
  • Your travel itinerary (e.g. places you will visit or stay, such as hotel booking),
  • Proof of a medical appointment.
---------------------------------------------

Please let me know.

Thank you

Show a dummy booking for return flight. She is still coming as a visitor.

But won't that be misleading as they know my daughter will not be returning? I'm worried they will reject the visa if they find out it's a dummy ticket.

It is a screenshot, not a booking. IRCC knows why she is coming. Make plans if her TRV is refused. Where is she applying from?

What other plans can I make? Could you kindly elaborate?
I'm applying from Qatar.
Thank you!
Neither of you are in Canada so show you have ties to Canada to show that you are settling permanently - jobs, lease/house purchase, meet residency obligations etc. Purchase health insurance for child because will not be eligible for health care. Don’t know what province you are moving to or if you have a family doctor but waiting times can be years. Daycare - are you planning to both work. If so get on waiting lists.

Thank you so much for your help.
Could you also kindly suggest me some places where I can get insurance from for my daughter?

Look at Blue Cross, Sun Life. She will only be able to get insurance for emergency health care, not routine. You most likely will pay out of pocket for regular check ups and doctor visits. May have to pay for regular vaccines etc. too.

I've tried Sun life before but it doesn't allow me to apply for my daughter. It says it's only for 18 years +. Do I have to get insurance for myself and then add my daughter?

You don’t need insurance as you will be covered by provincial healthcare, if you meet RO. Guess you could buy it for yourself. Will need to show around for infant insurance.

Hi
I had another quick questions, please. Since I'm applying for visit visa for my infant daughter, should I consider myself as a representative?
Thanks!
