Are you planning to travel by car? Are you from a visa-exempt country? You do not need your PR card to enter Canada, at all. The CBSA officer will see that you're a permanent resident when they scan your passport. However, if you're traveling by airline, you'll have to show the them (on your return trip to Canada) that you meet the requirements to enter Canada. If you are from a visa-exempt country, your passport will be sufficient. However, if you're not from a visa-exempt country, you wouldn't be able to board the plane. If you're planning on travelling by car, it doesn't matter. Your passport will be just fine.
Are you sure? I just landed today and the officer told me that I NEED an "official travel document" in order to enter Canada. Because i already booked my trip to the states in July. He said i HAVE TO HAVE official travel doc otherwise i might have to pay fine if i try to enter without PR Card..or worst might get denied, you know..

In order to get your travel doc, please refer here.

It takes appxi 20 days I actually thinking about cancelling my trip ;(
Anyone has better idea? I'm from a visa exempt country but the officer said as of today, my work visa/visiter visa(i applied for online visiter visa for visa exempt country) will be cancelled since i'm a pr now. Any advise??

I am traveling by Plane from USA. I am not visa-exempt but I have a valid TRV that expires in November. I'm not worried about the airline, I am worried about immigration in Canada. But I think you answered my question, if I can board the plane, then I should be fine in Canada airport.
If you landed already, then you should try to read this. I landed today, asked the same question to the officer and the answer is NO...

A new PR can in fact cross the border in a private vehicle without a PR Card. This is easily confirmed by simply calling CBSA.

The officer may not be thrilled, which means possibly being sent to Secondary Inspection, but they will be able to verify that you are in fact a PR.

BUT in a way, you are travelling without PASSPORT, you know? they all know you are citizen but if you don't have your "official travel document" you are not actually allowed to travel, that is why we all have passport...

Hello guys. I have a question. I was told to submit a police certificate. I already sent them that last year July when lodging in my application . I just sent them a copy of it using a Case specific Enquiry since they have the original . However I just ordered a new one again which should be here next week. I'm wondering if I should just post the updated one to them again
Although in the letter they sent me, they said only one submission is required . Is the Case Specific Enquiry considered a reply to their request?
What should I do? Need advice. I also want to include my medicals even though they haven't requested for it.

No, it is no longer your travel document.

Your COPR is your travel document, when you travel by car into Canada. Your Passport verifies your identity and citizenship.

Trust me...or better yet, call CBSA.

It really means that it is not valid for commercial travel.

Do yourself (and me) a favor...call CBSA. :)

Or...read this:
http://canadianimmigrant.ca/settling-in-canada/pr-card-myths-2

If, for example, a permanent resident travels to Canada by private car, there is no obligation whatsoever on the permanent resident to have a valid PR card.
That said, permanent residents without a valid PR card must produce other evidence of their status so as to satisfy CBSA that they are, in fact, permanent residents; an original confirmation of permanent residence (or landing document) will and should do the trick. Permanent residents have a right to enter Canada, and CBSA officers know it.

Same with me they asked for a police certificate again, so I called the call centre and they told me since I have already send the original initially, I can send the copy and then include a cover letter stating you have already submitted the original and that's why you are sending them the copy again and if they want me to send them a new one then get back to me . I did the same. So so far no mail or nothing asking me to send a new one.
