Never mind people, got DM today as well :D

Does anybody know how Montreal office contacts people for the finalization and how long that usually takes after DM for this contact as well as how long it usually takes before the interview is planned?

Thanks everybody! This forum has been a great resource and the people here are awesome :D
Congrats!!! I hope we all don't have to wait too long before we get good news too. I'm February 2015 Applicant

Hi Friends,

I'm in process of applying for wife's PR and have this important question - Can she travel outside of Canada for 1-2 months and return to Canada?
I found the below info from application guide:
"Leaving Canada can automatically cancel temporary resident status as a visitor, student or worker.

The person being sponsored has no guarantee that he or she will be permitted to return or re‑enter Canada if he or she leaves before permanent residence is approved. This is especially true if a Temporary Resident Visa is required to enter Canada."

Experts, any idea how often entry is refused when someone being sponsored (spousal inland) leaves Canada and returns after 1 or 2 months? She is currently on closed work permit till Jan 2016 and has got TRV till jan 2017. She is planning to go to India for around 2 months to finish her PhD from Oct to Dec 2016. Will she be granted entry on her return?

The answer is there in the quote from CIC. Being refused is a risk. If she is is willing to take that risk then she can travel. She could apply Outland, instead of inland and travel. No one can tell you how often someone is refused. Travelling for 1-2 months would be a huge risk I think.

Thanks a lot. I called an immigration lawyer today and they said travelling for 1-2 months shouldn't be a problem. More than 6 months can be an issue. I'm hoping to find out if someone in this thread has actually traveled when their application was being processed.

A longer travel would be problematic because it would interrupt your co-habitation, but it doesn't affect the risks of getting back.
Usually it's safer to travel for someone who is from a visa-exempt country, but for someone from India coming back just one month before her TRV and work permit expires, I think it would quite risky. If she decides to go, I would at least apply for a new TRV before she goes.
And be aware, if she will be refused, you have to withdraw your inland application and start everything again outland.

Update:

I applied on 30 July, 2015. Then the timeline was normal. Got AOR three months later, and OWP four months later.
Today I, the main applicant, received an email says:

"This confirms that your application for Permanent Residence under the Spouse or common-law partner in Canada class has been received by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) on 30/07/2015."

This seems an AOR for the applicant , after another four months since the sponsor got file number. Not sure what does this mean.... maybe means nothing? :D
Same thing here, for a secondI thought a miracle happened and it was my SA...
anyway, I guess it is a good signal they are working on the applications.

Before (a year ago) this "second" AOR meant that the information was input into ecas. At the same time on sponsor's part it appears "started processing of the application on..'' . The only meaningful thing about this AOR is that your application is deemed complete and will definitely not be returned

Hello everyone.

I need some urgent help. We're sending my wife OWP renewal (hers expired prematurely due to her passport date) and on form 5710 we're not sure what to check under question 3: A work permit with the same employer, An initial work permit or work permit with new employer, temporary resident permit? (I know it's not restoration for sure). There is no option to select extension. Which one to we pick? Also, is the correct extension fee $255? Do we send it to Unit 555 in Vegreville? Thank you in advance!

Why do you think it's not restoration for sure? Her OWP expired, she lost her status as a worker, and now she wants to restore her worker status. That sounds right to me. $255 is correct but I am not sure if you want Unit 555 or 777 (maybe someone else knows exactly).

Sorry it was a typo. I meant to say her OWP expires prematurely. That is in July 2016. She has not lost status.

I would choose the "initial work permit or work permit with new employer". Just include a cover letter explaining your situation (PR in process - include proof, first work permit was given for a short period due to passport expiry), and you will be fine. It's $255, and Unit 777.

Both when CIC introduced this new program and when they announced that it will be extended, they recommended to send it to Unit 777:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/updates/2014/2014-12-22.asp
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/media/notices/2015-12-11.asp
There must be a different unit responsible for the processing of these applications.
