Our application was received by CIC on November 6th. I now see that both the OWP permit(IMM5710) form and Generic App (IMM0008) have been updated. At the time of mailing and receipt of application, these forms had not been updated. What is likely to happen in our case? Just concerned as my husband will have been here for 6 months in January (Visa exempt visit)... worried about his status if they send everything back.

Any feedback is welcomed!

Hello All,

I have not been here for a while, but I see many ppl have questions about implied status.
I would share my story hope it helps some!

I arrived on Feb 1. 2015 to Canada, I was on visitor visa till April 27. On March 31st we submitted the inland sponsorship along with the OWP.
Technically the OWP application should have provided implied status, but I am not much of a gambler and I prepare for the worst case scenario as well (what if my OWP will be refused)
So 30 days prior my visitor visa expired I applied for a visitor visa extension as well. (As I said technically the OWP implied status would be enough, but I am a safe player)
So for my status to stay within Canada at this time I had two application with CIC: one for the OWP thru sponsorship and one separate for the visitor visa extension.
Sure enough my OWP has arrived, so the visitor visa extension became obsolete.
this is the reason why I am sharing my story here BECAUSE since the visitor extension was not needed anymore I called CIC to withdraw my application.
The agent on the phone ensured it is withdrawn.I have to note here that the application processing has not even started yet.
I asked them whether I could get a refund since they have not even started processing the visitor extension. the agent said most definitely they will make a note on the withdrawal.
Next thing I know couple of months later (end of October) I received a cheque from CIC with the refund amount.

Moral of the story ( for me ;) ) better to be safe than sorry. I did not want to gamble to become out of status in case at the end of my implied status the answer is negative and I do not get OWP.
I understand if ppl argue with this method and say the implied status is enough for them, I just wanted to share what worked for me.

Bonjour! My application was received 30 July 2015, AOR - 27th October. I rang CIC yesterday to find out if my OWP had been issued (as have spent too many days listening for the footsteps of the postie!).

Unfortunately the OWP request has not yet been decided. The agent strongly suggested I apply for a renewal of my visitors status in order to gain implied status if something goes wrong. My current one expires 18th December. He said that if I do receive the OWP, I can then cancel my renewal as indicated by GG_wife.

I will call again next week just to check if this status has changed but if not I will just try to be zen and not overthink it!

I just thought to add this update as a form of solidarity with others who are waiting!!

What form is needed to be filled out for renewal of status?

Thanks for sharing your story. My 4 months expire on Monday November 30 - as everyone else stated CIC refused to answer anything since 4 months have not yet passed. The wait is very very frustrating. But I am yet to hear about anyone whose OWP got refused!

Can you confirm when you received your OWP?

Surprised CIC actually gave a status update. In my case (application received on 31st July) - no information will be provided till 4 months are up. How can they "something goes wrong" - by 4 months they should actually give the decision.

Hope it all works out for you and everyone else. Hang in there

I got my OWP on July 14.

again I like to be safe when it comes to legal status, so if I were you I would apply for visitor visa restoration on Dec 1 since you are not eligible for visitor visa extension with such a close via expiry date (Nov 30.)

Of course if you are certain that your OWP would arrive between now and Feb 29 you can rely on implied status given to you by the OWP application. I say until Feb 29 because you have only 90 days to apply for visa restoration after your visitor visa expired on Nov 30, so if you are certain that you get OWP before the 90 days run out, you are safe.
However if you are uncertain I would most definitely go for visa restoration on Dec 1. because even in worst case scenario you would still have visitor status.

If you indicate in your cover letter that you are waiting for permanent residency via sponsorship and your OWP is still pending at the time when you are sending in visa restoration, most likely you would get the visa restoration. They are not worried to give visa extension and restoration to those who applied inland, it is a legit reason so they do not fuss about it, but you have to respect the timelines and submit it in time.

Of course you will get OWP! as I think nobody got refused here, but again I am a super safe player and want to be prepared for all scenarios as much as possible.

Completely off topic but in these stressful times, this made me laugh a little so I thought I would share. Was watching the 12 labors of Asterix and there is a part where they have to deal with administration. It made my think of what most of us have to go through...Enjoy!

My wife received the sponsorship AOR by mail today 11/27. CIC received app on 8/12. I'm guessing they tried to send an email AOR but they had the incorrect email address. Now just waiting for my OWP, and currently working on implied status (WP expired 10/30.) Fingers crossed.

Hi Guys,

so I posted here before regarding this concern:
I was a university student here and I currently have a OWP that's going to expire in Feb 2016. My passport was also expiring in Feb 2016. I submitted my OWP application along with my Sponsorship application on Sept 15, 2015 without realizing that I should have renewed my passport before submitting (otherwise I guess they are just going to either reject my OWP application or give me a new one with Feb 2016 expiration date).

The updated status now is that I have renewed my passport, and resubmitted my new passport page info through the CIC special request form on Oct 28, but I haven't heard anything since.

Is there a way I can track my OWP status at all?
and when we do get the AOR, do they give you the information to track your status online?

I figured admins should also add my info on the spreadsheet:
I submitted my application with OWP application on Sept 15, 2015. It was received by CIC the next day.
no word on anything at the moment.

Thanks!

sophieee thank you for your help. So I sent it just attached the documents and sent it to the email they told me to and in the subject just put application advancement- inland sclp, after I sent it I got an email of acknowledgment and today I got an email that just says : thank you for contacting Citizen and Immigration Canada, I am guessing that means they checked my email and got the documents as it doesn't say anything else?

Thank you very much for all the help !!

AOR Received.

Hi,

My PR application was received on 27th July (Got the AOR on 20th Oct). Since it has been four months they received my application,
I wonder what has happened to the OWP application. I called CIC and the agent told me he cannot see anything about OWP under my
name (sounds like he was looking at a screen or something). He said he will send a note to the office regarding my OWP application.
I said to him "how may I know about the office's response towards my application?" He said I will know it by mail. And I said
"Do you know how long will it takes to get mail?". He said he doesn't know.

Well that is how much I know about the status of my OWP. Few people posted earlier about not getting any news about their OWP
application and their received date is about the same time as mine, late July- early August. I hope everything will go well.

I also sent visa extension application which I haven't heard anything at all too (now it is 2 months after I sent it).
So bummed with not knowing what is happening to your application.
