I'm a newbie. Hi everyone! This is a great forum! Thanks everyone for helping everyone waiting-in-line out!

I'm in Canada on a 3-year Worker Visa expiring October 2015. I arrived Oct 2012 & married my Canadian spouse who is sponsoring me the same month I landed. My PR application seems to be in Ottawa judging from the email from CIC saying that we can email them back "OttPilot-immigration @ cic.gc.ca" if there are any problems documents attached in their email.

Here are my application dates.

Status from CIC Online view status
1. Received your application for permanent residence on July 3, 2013
2. Medical results have been received
***

Other information
$550 paid on 28 June 2013
$490 landing fee paid February 11, 2014
1st Medical & police report submitted with application on July 3, 2013
2nd Medical, police report & requested pictures submitted April 4, 2014

Does anyone have some experience around how long the wait time might be? Will it be x months counting from July 2013, or, from April 2014 when the 2nd set of medicals, police reports & pictures were requested? Will I possibly have to extend my Worker Visa for a last year?

Again, thanks so much for your help!

Maria, going_nutz :'(
According to the Visa Office it seems that you have an outland application. You should ask your question one of their forums.

Hello everyone, i havnt been on here for a while my wife is sponsoring me. i originally sent my inland app november 2013 but it got returned to us after 3months for an outdated form... it really hurt because we called the call center numerous times and they said not everyone gets AOR and that our app was all good and blah.. blah.. blah...

we resent the app to Mississauga office early march and it was received on the 6th of march, and i know that with the present timeline, it takes about 3 months to get AOR but the waiting is still driving me crazy, and it doesnt help that it looks like they have done fuck all.. the past few months, i dnt wanna rant or be rude here because we are all in the same boat i guess, but it feels like our life has been on hold for way too long.

We have been married for two years and i've known eachother since 2009, i came into canada on a study permit and it expired 2012 but we got married before it expired. We have two wonderful kids, girl and a boy, she'll be 3 june 26th and keeps reminding me everyday lol he'll be two august 10th. and we are expecting a third :) gonna be a girl and my wife is due august. I am a happy man because i wakeup to a wonderful family, loving beautiful wife and amazing kids.

I wanna be a PR and a citizen someday but at this point in time i honestly just want to work... cuz watever meagre money she'll be getting on meternity leave wont cut it, all i want is a work permit and they can take however long they want to process to pr application.

We just want our life back

sorry if i was ranting lol

Hope u get soon AOR, and OWP.

Our sponsorship application was received on march 12, 2014 (CPC-M). So far, there is AOR. i am sponsoring my wife and she is on study permit, which is gonna expire by the end of august.
i called few time they said the same "not everyone gets AOR". so, i am not sure what to make out of that.

Welcome here again Shaqhal! I'm sorry about what happened to you, I would have freaked out if it happens to me. And I agree that this is the hardest part of the process and the waiting, after AIP, when you have OWP, and health coverage, and almost everything but the free travelling it must be easier to wait.
Right now the processing at CIC is really depressing (right now no AOR for one whole week!), but I really hope that they will faster soon, they just can't continue to work slower and slower....

Shaqhal, Jaisask, I added you both to the spreadsheet!

I sent it via snail mail, because this way I got one more month in implied status. However I got only 6 months. Only thing I can think of is that they didn't see my inland app in the system, and it wasn't enough that I said that I had one.

I am in the exact same situation, my whole application was returned after 3 months due to 1 outdated form and I sent it back off in March, I have heard nothing at all since.

Hi Sophieee,

If i may ask, why did you applied for visa extension? Isn't that given once they have received your application, you are under implied status which means you can legally stay in Canada regardless of the expiration of your current visa or work permit, in my case, as i am a TFW before i applied for the sponsorship. The CIC rep told me i need not to worry about my length of stay beyond the work permit expiration because i already have my Application number.

Can you shed some light on this?

Thanks!

there's a difference between how CIC and CBSA look at out of status individual. CIC doesn't have much of a problem if the person is out of status or under implied status with respect to immigration applications. however CBSA can deport people if they have been out of status for long or been arrested. so though it's not required for immigration application, it's good to be in status for various other reason.

Did you attach copy of your payment for your sponsorship application along with your visa extension application? What are the documents you sent ?

Submitting an Inland application alone does not give the applicant implied status, once their legal status expires. You must have submitted an Open Work Permit (OWP), or a Study Permit application with your Inland application PRIOR to your status expiring to have implied status.

As chakrab pointed out, CIC seems to be ok with a person without status applying for PR, but CBSA has a completely different view on those in Canada without status. If you do not maintain your status you can be removed from Canada by CBSA.

No, I think I didn't... Honestly, I believed that they will be able to locate my application according to the UCI#, so I didn't send them everything. Next time I will be more prepared.
Actually I'm thinking about applying again right now, even if I have status till October. It would make my life easier if I get one year extension, for example, I could have a permanent driver's licence, a BCID card... I don't know how strange would it seem for them, that I'm applying now when I have status for 4 months. What do you think?

Hi Sophiee,

Are u applying OWP or student permit?

we included OWP in sponsorship application. My wife is on study permit, which is gonna expire in 3 months.

I talked to CIC on this and as mentioned in earlier posts they always say my wife ll get implied status as soon as her study permit expires.

Yes your wife would get implied status as a study visa. Once your wife get OWP approved, she loses her study visa and can no longer study. She loses her study visa status but gain her work visa instead.
