Don't know if everybody here reads the 2013 thread, but there appears (don't know if it's real) a reporter from CBC looking for information on inland delays:

Have a look.

Well, I say: "LET'S FEED HIM WITH FLOOD OF INFORMATION !!!!!!!!!!"

crusade on F CIC please.

So can we still send OWP app with our PR app and get implied status? I thought that was going away... but I'd be super happy if we can still do it. I think I'll call the CIC tomorrow.

Yes, you can do that. I called CIC but the agent initially said I'll have to apply for an extension online even if I had sent my OWP app. I asked her if she was sure. She put me on hold & went to confirm it with her supervisor. She was wrong and I was right.

OWP sent with a PR application WILL give you implied status :)

Same for us. We were sure I had had implied status but wanted to double check. BUT the different answers from CIC are frustrating!

Have called several times to confirm as my visitor status will run out this month so we're getting anxious. 1st time, we were told it's ok as I'll have implied status as we sent an OWP with the app. 2nd time, we were advised to apply for an extension online to be 'safe'. 3rd time (today) my OH called to see if he got a different response in french.

The guy said lots of people apply for extensions of their tourist visa because they are not aware of their implied status (statut implicite). He said there's nothing wrong with it, but it's not useful and probably a waste of money & time. There's nothing wrong with sending an application to renew/extend visa, to make you feel better and it's not that expensive (in comparison to everything else), but it's up to you if you want to go through with it.

We have been told that as long as we have the number from the company who sent our application, that is the equivalent of an AoR. He said that the AoR wasn't an official paper per say so shouldn't be more or less valid than the number from the post. (fine, but I'd still prefer an email from CIC!)

Also, he said they don't know yet how Mississauga will be treating the cases (eg. if they will send AoR or not) as they haven't started and are still working on the process. He said to keep looking online and once the date is after July, it will be a good time to call again or look at the forums to see what the procedures are as it will mean that Mississauga will definitely running the cases by then.

Happy Wednesday! haha ???

Yeah, they updated the information on the CIC website on 15 Jan (regarding the new mailing address for Inland applications) and then again on 21 Jan regarding the OWP change.

Can you provide the CIC link of their Jan 21 2014 announcement as you said, regarding OWP?

Thank you for sharing, seems like you got a surprisingly competent agent.

Inland sponsorship for wife

Hi there, I've added you, please contact me if you would like to share anything else, or when your package is arrived.

Good evening everybody,

Our story is not far off from everyone else. My husband and I got married on Sunday April 6th of 2014. Now we're looking at the necessary processes in order to apply for an inland spousal sponsorship. I'm Canadian and my husband is Brazilian. He was in Canada from January 2013 to August 2013 on a student visa that was combined with an open work permit. However, now he has been back in Canada since January of 2014 and his visa expires in July. Again, he has a student visa which is combined with an open work permit. For 3 months again he's been studying English (Jan-Apr), and then he can make use of his open work permit for the next 3 months (May-July). From everything I've read online, when submitting the application for spousal sponsorship, I understand he has the option to apply for an open work permit, which will later be granted once the first stage of approval has been completed. However, our main question so far is, can we submit an application to extend his current open work permit? or do we need to submit an application for a new open work permit?

Our next question is concerning his ability to visit Brazil for about 2 weeks (possibly in August). As mentioned earlier, his visa expires in July. So given the fact that there will be a significant amount of time in-between July and the date of first stage approval (roughly 11 months later March/April 2015), and given that we follow through with the submission of an extension of his work permit, will he be able to visit his family during this time of limbo? Will he be able to re-enter Canada based on his conditional status given from the spousal sponsorship application? or would he be able to re-enter Canada based on the status given to him from his expired open work permit, however supported by the extension that has been submitted along with the sponsorship application?

We apologize in advance if this is a lot. You could imagine how technically completed it is for us to wrap our minds around everything. But if someone could help us out, we would really appreciate it.

You can renew the OWP here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/extend-worker.asp

It is not recommended to travel outside Canada during the time your PR & sponsorship application are in process. There is a high probability that he will be denied entry by the immigration officer at the port of entry when he is trying to get back in. I am expecting to be land-locked in Canada at least for the next year or so. It takes them anywhere between 8 - 14 months to process a spousal inland PR. It can take longer.

I assume your bf has a coop work permit which allows him to work to earn experience as a component of his English training. This program is getting more popular now and is being used as a fast track entry into Canada rather than regular study permit program. However, the open work permit that he has is bound by his academic program, that is a coop term, and doesn't mean he can freely work at any number of hours for any duration. The spousal open work permit is totally different one, it is to earn income and for employment purpose. When you submit the sponsorship he can submit OWP and wait for it to be processed at first stage review. From now till then, after his coop work permit expires, he is not allowed to work. If he violates the term of his permit he may be subject to removal.

a person can re-enter canada as long as the person has either a valid student permit or work permit.

A person can attempt to re-enter Canada, but it is NOT 100% unless you are a PR or citizen. In fact, under certain extreme circumstances, even a PR can be denied.
