I wish when people getting their AIP'S they are putting their dates of application received. I'm dying to see which date because I'm also hoping for one this week.

Hi Princess029,

This is old, we are July 13/13 applicants. I posted my dates on my first post on this website. I posted this now because someone in the forum thinks my hubby is having issues getting his AB health care because we are providing the wrong letter, so I just want to make sure we actually got AIP.

Good luck and hopefully you get yours very soon.

In a lot of cases if the applicant is young they may let the expiry date of the medical side and your mostly likely not to have any issues, however if you are slightly older they would require it again.
I wonder where you got this information? Seems not credible to me!?

Just had the most confusing and contradictory convo with the NICEST CIC Call Center Rep, not sure if I really learned anything new though.

So I was asking since eCAS has updated that my husband’s Stage 2 is now In Process since Nov.17th (I got SA on Nov.6th, and we applied Aug.14, 2013), if this does not in fact mean that he HAS AIP, despite not receiving an email yet. I can’t understand how Stage 2 could be underway if there is no AIP.

She told me that Stage 1 is only for Sponsorship Approval and that there is no AIP issued during the 1st Stage….hahhaha…ummm…what??!?

She confirmed that our 1st Stage IS complete, and Stage 2 IS in progress. She said a communication has been issued for my husband, but not yet sent. She said they have until Dec.4th to send the communication. If we don’t have it by then, to call back.

They wouldn’t have Stage 2 in process if my husband was refused AIP, would they?!?? Any ideas??

In the strictest sense, CIC is correct. First Stage 1 is the sponsor approval stage. Determine whether or not the sponsor is eligible to sponsor for PR. Once the sponsor get sponsor approval, first stage is complete. The 2nd stage begins focusing on the applicant. CIC should then issue an AIP at beginning of stage 2. Majority of the time, AIP is issued shortly after Sponsor Approval which is the start of stage 2.

Ooooh...really? I wasn't aware of that. Ok. That makes more sense I suppose. Well not that I wasn't aware...but it was not quite so clear.

So why do they say that on their website ?
Person to be sponsored lives in Canada
Type of sponsorship application Step 1 – Assessment of sponsor and person being sponsored Step 2 – Medical, security, background checks and other verifications for person being sponsored

If you have not already done so, you should download the ip08 document from the CIC website. There is a flowchart (~ page 42 I believe) that details how the process works for an Inland application. As screech has mentioned, there are basically two parts that equal AIP.

The second part is really just determining if the applicant is in fact a member of the Family Class (meaning that s/he is cohabiting with their sponsor, which would include the assessment of their relationship).

As Ponga mentioned. If you look in IP08 Manual, on page 44 of 69 of adobe up top or Page 50 on bottom left of ip08 manual, Appendix A - In Canada Processing Flowchart.

Step 1 involves sponsor qualification and once it meets that, it then looks at applicant to see if it qualifies as a member of the class R124. Is applicant a spouse or commonlaw; is applicant cohabiting with sponsor; does applicant hold temporary resident status; is application submitted and approved; is applicant excluded from class due to R125 provisions. Once that applicant initial examination has been approved, then AIP will be issued.

As I mentioned above, since you applied as common law, they may be taking your "common law" evidence a closer look before they are satisfied that you are in fact qualify as common law.

There has been a couple of cases, not many, of common law applicants been called in for interview despite sponsor getting approved. After the interview, they issue AIP.

Common law applicants tend to put under tighter scrutiny since they can separate without any divorce papers required. No marriage, no divorce papers.

Not sure if this was directed at me, since you quoted me? But we are not common law. We have known each other 9 years, been together 8 years, and married for 5 years.
