Oh wow... you actually got DM!? No one from our time period has one yet, wow!

Sorry to hear about any issues that have come up... but thanks for letting us know. Wish that was us! We are the same day as you and didn't get a DM for whatever reason... applicant has been in Canada over 10 years and with Sponsor for 6, wonder what was different in your application?!

No you don't need a job to get OHIP coverage. Having an OWP allow you to qualify for it. OWP does make its a lot easier to get OHIP over AIP email letter.

Seriously?? So if you haven't received your AIP yet, and have an OWP but are unemployed... you could potentially get OHIP coverage?

Probably just a different, faster person processing their application.

Screech can probably give you more information, but I believe the OWP needs to be valid for at least a year (if not, at least 6 months). However many applicants are on implied status, or have a short time until OWP expiry.
The information from OHIP below mentions with only an OWP you need to be employed full-time for at least 6 months...

It appears that the OWP you get AFTER AIP has a note (from what I understand) that indicates a PR application in process... I think that would be more 'legitimate' in their eyes and not require a job in those situations.

What immigration documents must I present to confirm my immigration status as an Applicant for Permanent Residence (previously called an Applicant for Landing) when applying for Ontario health insurance coverage?
If you are applying for Ontario health insurance coverage as an Applicant for Permanent Residence, you are required to present written confirmation from Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) that you are eligible to apply for permanent residence in Canada, which may be one of the following :

CIC Confirmation Letter – letter on CIC letterhead addressed to the Applicant for Permanent Residence that confirms that the applicant is eligible to apply for permanent residency in Canada;
CIC Immigration document such as a Work Permit, Visitor Record, Temporary Resident Permit or Study Permit with note in the “Remarks Section” that indicates that you have applied for permanent residence; or
A Work Permit case type 27, which are issued solely to individuals who have applied for permanent residence within Canada.

Having AIP is one way to prove your residency (based on their checklist) and having an OWP is another. (Again, if only OWP it appears you need to be employed full-time for 6 months)

Here's the information from the OHIP website that actually says you must be employed for 6 months full-time to use an OWP:
http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/public/publications/ohip/temp_foreign.aspx

Closed and Open Work Permits

Temporary foreign workers who hold a valid work permit may be eligible for OHIP coverage. The worker must be employed full-time for an employer in Ontario for a minimum of 6 months and :

Maintain their primary place of residence in Ontario; and
Be physically present in Ontario for at least 153 days in any 12-month period, and
Be physically present in Ontario for 153 of the first 183 days immediately after establishing residency in the province
Document Requirements

In order to satisfy the above criteria, foreign workers applying for OHIP coverage must present their work permit as well as provide documentation confirming their full-time employment in Ontario for a period of at least 6 months.

Okay, that's what I thought. I've read all that info before, but hadn't heard what Screech was referring to. I didn't realize the post-AIP OWP is its own entity. My husband's OWP is good for the extent of his original PGWP - until next September 2015. But alas... no job yet.

Just checking if any of the following have received their OWP already:
Worththewait
Emmisocks
Kismetfatum
Gs_Stud
Torontocouple -- I know you mentioned 2-4 weeks, but just checking with the others as well :)

I just need to have an idea when to expect mine in the mail.
Kindly respond if you have any idea how long before we receive the OWP. Thanks so much!

An aug 6th applicant received AIP today. Via fb group:

My apologies for the confusion on my part that I may have caused. I keep forgetting about the OWP relating to PGWP or IEC. The OWP I keep thinking and referring to are those who gotten OWP after AIP through spousal PR inland sponsorship.

No need to apologize! I know we're lucky just for the fact that he HAS a form of OWP.

Hey all! Quick question, how were you contacted about your landing appointment, and how much notice were you given? We got DM 11 days ago. I know the average time from DM to landing is 39 days according to the google doc. But I'm worried they won't give me a tonne of notice and I'll be scrambling to get work off so I can accompany my husband on this most important day! I've been getting emails from CIC from the beginning of this process, but I'm curious if the office here will follow the same method.

If we compare:
For inlands apps, right now we are already beyond from the time frame (12 months) back in 2010.

Can we name it the Worst Year for Inland Sponsorship Processing in Canadian history? 14 months and up just for sponsorship eligibility. Wow!

And everyone who getting stuck in this limbo has been set up by God to be applying for this thing in the worst timeline ever.
