Hello!
I've been reading this forum for almost a year now and it's about time I made an account I think haha.
I am a Canadian Citizen who filed for sponsorship of my American husband in December of 2013, and haven't heard anything back from CIC besides "Application Received". It's driving us crazy, and my husband can't work legally here so he's left at home all day feeling useless and it's been really getting to us. About to lose the place we're living because I don't make enough to support the two of us with the kinds of jobs I can get, and I'm going to school as well. Neither of us have ever been so stressed out before, and I really wish we would've chosen outland if we knew it was going to be this difficult.
We're even considering withdrawing our application, getting a little bit of the money back possibly, and him trying to sponsor me to the US instead, so we can both be working and making money towards something...

Does ANYBODY know when we should be expecting his OWP? :(

Hello there ckwilson93! Unfortunately, for us right now, it's been a year now and still no OWP. Believe me, I totally understand what you and your husband are going through! The longer we wait for OWP the further and further we've gone into debt. It's very stressful and frustrating. I'm hoping for your sake that CIC speeds up sometime soon, but as it stands right now you still have a few months to wait for OWP. :(

Yet another new week.....Starting the week off hopeful that THIS will finally be the week where we get a whole bunch of AIPs and DMs!!! :)

Honestly, There is no valid reason why CIC should not be giving out the remaining AIP's this week for July applicants and moving onto August applications. They state they are currently working on July 26th applications. July 26th/2013 was a Friday. This means that NO APPLICATION would have been received on July 27th or July 28th, 2013 as these were weekend days. Their next update SHOULD show a date either July 29th (which means they wouldd have only moved through 1 lousy day of applications) or into August. I cannot Fathom them being stuck in July any longer! It's getting ridiculous!

Given the slow progress, you might be better off applying outland. Does anyone know how long it takes for US outland at the moment? It's hard to say because there's always that hope that things will speed up, but it hasn't been that way in months.

Hi All,

I have a question as to Open Work Permit (IMM 5710). I know the answer is quite clear but still would like to make sure.

In the Back Ground Question 2 C) have you previously applied to enter or remain in Canada?
Yes, we havd applied student work permit twice to extend my fiance's status. Can we just say yes? I believe this seems new question to new form, so no clear instruction in the guide line.

And he grauduated in May and is looking for a job since then. How should we indicate his status? Worker? Student? He has both student and work permit.

Pleae advise me. Thank you!

A straightforward US Outland application is ~ 6-10 months from beginning, to receiving CoPR.

Totally agree with you.

As an August 14 applicant, I was pretty upset to get my GCMS notes with 98% of our file saying Not Started. I would have assumed since realistically it should only be another month at most until we SHOULD get approval it would be at least half done, with some personal notes in it.....nope...... >:(

At this point, you're better off just continuing to wait. You're already 7 months into the process, so starting over now, with an Outland application would be moot...not to mention the psychological turmoil that it would add to your lives.

Unfortunately, the OWP will likely not be issued for another 4-5 months, based on the tortoise-like progress that's been reported.

Did you include the OWP with the Inland application? If so, that will make it a bit faster (by a few days).

If he's computer savvy, he should look into working remotely (for anyone outside of Canada), since that wouldn't require him to have any type of work permit. Try websites like: www.guru.com, www.elance.com, www.craigslist, etc.

Good luck!
