Go to this http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/extend-worker.asp
The form is IMM5710. You can send the form now and hopefully they will match it with your file and grant you OWP when stage one is approved. Make sure to write "Open Work Permit - Application for permanent residence in Canada - Spouse or common-law partner" on the envelope and the form so, that they don't end up processing it before AIP and refuse you.

P.S. I am not 100% on the wording to be written maybe some one more experienced can help in that.

I would think that AIP is more than just checking the sponsors paperwork. Look at the number of people who have been asked for more information regarding there relationship at the time that would be AIP, rather than at the time that would be DM. Obviously that's not absolute and you could be rejected for any reason after AIP, but if you've got it i'd say you were on the right track.

Got my OWP in the mail today!!!! And it is such a nice birthday present! ;D ;D

I have another question. I am not from a visa exempt country, therefore, need to apply for TRV. Does anybody know whether I can apply for TRV using the OWP?

Thanks!

Thank you so mcuh Guri. My wife came here and never left the country. So I guess she is a visitor. She never had a work permit before. So I still send in IM5710 form? THank you for your quick reply. Really helpful...

Hi guri, we sent our application for sponsorship together with the OWP, but we didn't specify that kind of wording in the separate envelope, but in the form it says OWP. Is that okay?

Hello Guys,

Good news. I finally got an email from CIC with a letter that says that:
1) They've found me eligible for Permanent residency,
2) They need a copy of my renewed/extended passport (It was expiring)
3) A police certificate (which I didn't need, i'll explain that to them)

4) They told me that my workpermit has been approved (that I sent with the application).
It says:
Your application for a Work Permit has been approved and your new document(s) will be
sent to you separately. You are authorized to remain in Canada under the conditions listed
on the document(s). Please read them carefully.
It also stated that I may apply for a study permit if I want.

The sponsor hasn't received anything for AIP. Does this mean that we got AIP as you don't get an OWP before AIP??

We haven got an email about the OWP other than the standard one stating I can apply for one.
I hope I get one soon.

Unless...CIC doesn't bother to send an email and just issues the OWP. wouldn't be surprised at all.

We sent it in with the PR app.

@ Shr3wd

My app was a May 2nd so we definitely know things are moving along! It's super exciting.

You should be getting it in the mail soon then, there won't be another email about it. Mine arrived today and I got approval last Wednesday :)
