Cirene and Mrs_Canuck - I'm not going to say hang in there because I know its very hard at this point. Just take a few deep breathes, and walk away from the computer for a few minutes, distract your mind with something else for a little while, then come back to it. Just regroup, stay positive! Your letters are coming! HUGS!

But...it IS 12 months AFTER you began living together. If you moved in together 01/09/2012, you were not common-law until 01/09/2013.

I think the form is quite specific in asking when did you enter into the commonlaw relationship, meaning the date you began living together in a conjugal relationship. Because even within Canada there are different definitions of common law. OSAP for example defines it as 3 years.

guys I got the aip and dm together
here is the thing nrajani is my wife..she already posted it ..her hubby got that...
I was still in shock that's y it took some time for me to post...
hope for things happening ...everyone will get thr time soon

Congrats everyone that got good news today! My OWP arrived in the post today. It has my old passport number on it though. CIC call centre advised me that this is fine, seems a little weird though.

Congrats for AIP,DM , OWP and for all things positive.

Thank you,

I will also say a prayer for the both of you as I can only imagine your anticipation. It won't be easy to just push it aside, but at least give it a try.

I have taken up art classes and learned how to crochet from on YouTube to pass the time.

I hunted high and low and couldn't find a direct answer for that Line.a, sorry. I know in the USA, that federal mail will usually NEVER be forwarded, but this isn't the USA. Also, in the US you don't pay the post office to forward your mail, you simply fill out a change of address card and they do the rest for you! LOL

There are not a lot of cultural and obvious differences between the two countries, but one glaring thing for me is the differences in the postal services!

I wish I could help you more on this issue, but I have no idea how it works exactly. Have you gotten other pieces of mail from your previous address at your new address since around the 8th or so? If the answer is yes, then you really can't do anything until CIC can issue you a new OWP on the 19th. If the answer is no, you haven't gotten any new mail from your previous address forwarded yet, then take the rude woman and knock her in the head that with information and ask her to explain exactly what services it is that you paid for when you paid for mail forwarding? ;)

So I decided to walk all the way down to shoppers drug mart where Canada post has their little office, in snow, ice and what not. I did politely ask the lady the first time and she simply just said go 1.5 kms down the road to the mail centre, so I did.. I walked.. In ice and snow and oh my god I couldn't find the place! I was just frustrated, too hyped up since I had a 355m red bull (seriously.. Why did I even drink that much red bull?!) lol turned around, went back to Canada post and confronted her a second time around and she called them. Nothing.

So I asked what kind of service we get when we pay $50 some dollars to forward our mail, and she simply said well everything that has your name on and what not on get sent directly to you. Why she didn't bother telling me this in the 1st place I would have just walked home again and waited, instead of being in doubts. What a s**t show of a day haha :P I think I'm going to pour myself a glass of whiskey and ice and sip on that and not think about anything that has to do with immigration... Oh my, oh my! ;D

The question is not when they ENTERED INTO the common-law relationship. Go back and read the question again; it was regarding when they BECAME common-law.

JHWife2011, Nrajani_99, Marylou, thank you all. This is amazing. I'm so glad that we can go to a forum like this and receive support, prayers and well wishes from people we have never met in person. This makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Thank you all for your kind words and helpful wisdom. I myself am going to take your advice JHWife and go burn off some of my nervous energy at the gym. I do need to pry myself away from the computer and just continue to be patient.

Congrats to all of those who received good news today, you are proof that CIC does eventually get around to stuff ... eventually. :P

Hang in there, Cirene! We will get through this! :)
