Hello,
I have some questions if you can help me out with.
My partner is planning to sponsor me once he gets his PR next year.By the time he gets it we will be living together for a year and been together two years. But in that one year time frame he has been traveling to India to visit a family for 2 months. Will that affect our application or it has to be 12 months continuously without any traveling?

Thank you!

Hello everyone,
Congrats to those who have received AIP, DM etc, I am so glad there is a progress in the processing. Please could you add me to the spreadsheet.

Application received 11th April 2011
Application Processing/AOR 19th April 2011
OWP sent separately and was received 1st Sept 2013
Reply from cic 13th Sept that OWP will be processed with PR app if AIP
no medicals done

Hello Cokolada,

If the travel was within 90 days apart from each other, it should be fine as long as you can demonstrate you two have been continuously communicating in conjugal (I think that's the word) relationship during that time as a couple and provide the reason for his travel.

My partner was away for 87 days and I called cic and asked the same question as you. We have not been approved yet (*fingers crossed*) but just providing you info that I know.

Hope that helps!

Hello MisterBob,

Are you applying as a conjugal or common law relationship? I'm sponsoring my partner as common-law though she was away for about 35 days during the 12 months living together.

No, he doesn't have to cross the border to activate the OWP.
There is an expiry date on the temporary SIN card. Though I'm not sure, if the expiry date on the OWP is different from the one of his current card, He maybe needs to go to Service Canada with the OWP and ask them to update the date of expiry of his temporary SIN.

He actually first came to Canada to work in 2006 (in and out on work permits for a bunch of years, then here on a study permit, then post grad work permit, now PR applicant) and when they gave him a SIN at that point it doesn't have an expiry. Friends who have come over to wotk in more recent years have expiries on theirs though so perhaps it changed sometime after 2006.

In any case, I guess if everything goes quickly between getting our AIP yesterday and getting a DM/landing date, he won't spend much time actually working under the OWP, before he gets PR and a permanent SIN. Friends of ours who did this process a year or so ago said they were able to apply for the permanent SIN right in the same office/building as their landing appointment, as soon as they were granted PR!

Hello Everyone,

Quick question, Do I need two different fingerprints one for Canada? and one for FBI since i lived there since the age of 11? or just one for the FBI ?
