Thanks for your congrats! :)

I know how you feel. Having to explain why we didn't work for 11 months makes me nervous, even if it's obvious due to the immigration laws. But I honestly don't worry too much about what sort of job I get, a job is a job and we can always work our way up from there. Getting into the system again is gonna be hard, I think I'm having to buy a new coffee brewer so I can wake up and get a full day in!

I'm ready to do anything as well :) I'm going to focus on finding something not to long term and close by though. And I COULD always go back to my old job :3 Even if I don't want to haha!
You should pm me your address so that I can send you some coffee :D I have too many pounds of beans!

OH MY GOODNESS! IM LOVING CIC RIGHT NOW! THIS WEEK HAS BEEN CRAZY!!! KEEP EM COMING ;D CONGRATS ALL!

Mmm... I might have sent them too many documents to proof my relationship... :-\

Hi all, congrats to those people getting approvals! I am a Canadian who married my American wife last year. We have an inland application that was in since June 11, 2013. She wants us to go to the USA for a short visit to go to a family function. Any thoughts on whether we can do this safely?

Hi Torontomike,

What sort of visa is she on? Work visa, pgwp visa, student visa, visitor visa? And when do they expire? If they have expired, then your wife will lose any implied status she has if she leaves the country and enters back in.

Often it is said you shouldn't leave the country at all if the applicant is applying inland as the visa officer can refuse you at the border and your inland application would be cancellled. Because your wife is from the states, she is from a visa exempt country which makes it highly unlikely she will be refused at the border. But it is up to the visa officer so if they are in a foul mood then that is unlucky as they can refuse to let your wife back in.

Hi hockeyfan, well she came to Canada as a visitor from US. To make sure she wasn't out of status, we did a temporary resident visa extension at some point.

Hey Mike,

I wouldn't risk leaving the country until stage 1 approval is done and she gets an open work permit (OWP). I am from the US as well and I haven't left the country at all. I have heard of people leaving though and coming back without issues. Again it's entirely up to the visa officer at the border.

If she absolutely must leave, I would suggest you accompany her on the trip and you bring proof that you have sent in an inland application and you have paid all the fees. The visa officer should let you through without problems. If you cannot go with her, then I would ask her to bring all the proof so she can show she has submitted her application. It will always be a risk as well if she leaves without her PR in hand as the officer can always refuse her at the border.

Best of luck,

Mike,

You are getting good advice in that other thread you started. It is all legit what they are saying.

All the best,
