I've been stewing about this since I sent in the package. On form IMM008 (question #4) It asks, which Immigration Office is requested for processing this application.
Here's what the Guide said:

Indicate the name of the Immigration Office which serves:

your country of nationality, or
the country in which you are residing, provided that you have been lawfully admitted to that country for at least one year.

Note: Do not select the CIO as the immigration office requested to process your application. Although you may be required to will submit your application to the CIO, you must indicate the name of an appropriate visa office using the criteria above.

I have been wondering about this question.... We filed INLAND and we put Kingston, Jamaica as the answer.
I am Canadian (sponsor) and hubby is Jamaican (applicant).. yet he is out of status and was never "lawfully admitted to Canada for at least one year" (he overstayed a work visa).

Is this correct? I keep wondering because really, this application will never see Jamaica will it? From what I understand it will be processed in Vegreville.. and then transferred locally (in Canada) to where we live. I hope I didn't mess this form up. It was one with the barcodes too.. :

The wording of that is kinda funny, but unless things have changed since last year, you should've written 'Vegreville' as this is the office you want to be processing your application. As far as I can remember, there were no tickboxes for 'outland' or 'inland' so this is the only way you have to select the Inland route. Not sure what you can do to fix it, but probably call CIC.

I have a question about the medicals. I'm Canadian, but currently living with my partner in his country of origin (Cameroon). We're planning on visiting Canada in June and then applying inland for his residency.

Should we do the medical in Cameroon or should we wait until we're in Canada and then do the medical? Does it matter? Once in Canada are there specific doctors who do the medicals like if you do it out of country? How much does a medical in Canada cost?

I want to send all documents together at the same time, including the medical and police check.

First off, if you apply inland, it is highly inadvisable to leave the country during the processing of your application as you risk having it refused. I forget the details, but you might want to look into it.

As to your question, you have to get the medicals done by a physician authorized by CIC, whether you are in Canada or in Cameroon. I don't see why it would matter where you did it; but in Canada its about $300.

When attaching forms and stuff like that is there anyway to verify they got it? Or do I basically just wait till my AIP and if successful I will get my OWP as well (and if I don't get OWP, then it was lost in transit and never made it to my application)

I used ATIP requests to confirm receipt, as they show any incoming correspondence.

Also, I looked ahead at the OWP application and I only have 1 question I would need help with: It's box 3 at the very start of the first page.
I'm on a post grad work visa right now that expires June 18th, and once I get AIP and my OWP I will continue or go back to the same job I'm at right now. So would I check the box "a work permit with same employer"?

I wouldn't. If you do end up in the work permit queue, it takes longer. Besides you're allowed to work for any employer, so it is "new". But I suspect it won't matter (which is why OWPs are done manually still.)

The issue is that if you are refused re-entry you will not be able to satisfy the "living with your sponsor in Canada" requirement. But because of this, CBSA is actually pretty careful to have a valid reason for refusing re-entry. But some people are unwilling to live with that level of risk and hence the recommendation you not leave.

Thanks! Yes application submission date was identical. We'll keep each other updated. I got my AOR a day after you. I did submit the OWP applicatation with the sponsorship application, as I thought it might save time later on in the process. I also had the medical done before submitting the applicztion.

For Question 3 on the OWP application, I think it would be safest to tick "A work permit with a new employer", since you're applying for an open work permit, and not an extention of your current work permit. An application for a work permit for the same employer would not be an open work permit, since it would restrict you to work with ONLY the employer written on the work permit (ie. your current employer). If I were you, I would tick work permit with a new employer just to be safe!

We did the medicals before too, and am really wishing we did the OWP initially. I don't want to have to worry about and wonder if they successfully attached my OWP to my PR application, but such is life.

Alright I'll go with "new employer". Also if you remember when you did your OWP application did you just do the main form (IMM5710)? Or did you do everything on the checklist? I have a job letter form my current job in Canada on my PGWP, but I'm not sure if I should include it or not.

I guess it's better to do too much than too little, and if I'm successful with AIP, I'm sure they will just give me an OWP (if my app gets attached).

I attached everything that was in the checklist for the OWP application. Even though some of the documents were included in the Spousal application (like copies of passport pages, etc), I still provided seperate copies of all documents required. My thinking was that the OWP application may be processed seperately by a different department, so better to be on the safe side and provide seperate copies!

Then you have an outland application and the conversation in this thread isn't applicable to your situation. Generally you only get sponsor approval, no AOR, for an outland application.

That's actually the issue - they do need to have some rationale for refusing you entry. For example, if you ran into trouble while outside Canada (e.g., a drunk driving charge) they could then refuse to allow you to re-enter the country. If you are refused, you can challenge the refusal, especially in light of the harsh effect of such a refusal.
