Pay Canada Post for forwarding service - seriously. I've read SO many people say "I updated my address" only to have their paperwork go awry, that paying the $70 or so that Canada Post charges for forwarding is a veritable bargain.
I agree with the need to pay for mail forwarding service if I were to move in middle of the PR application. However someone made a good point in that Canada Post does not forward or is not allowed to forward any government related mail to the new address. Making the service pretty much useless. However I would still pay for the mail forward service just in case Canada Post does in fact allow to forward government mail.

Hello everyone,

We have just sent our inland sponsorship application (including an OWP application) on November 15, we still haven't received the email confirming that our package was received but with the tracking number in Canada post shows that it arrived in Vegreville on November 19.

CIC website shows 11 months processing time for initial assessment, is that how long I'll have to wait to get my OWP?

I also noticed that for applications outside of Canada that initial assessment only takes 28 days. That is a huge difference!! I wonder what if I decided to withdraw my application, leave Canada and apply from overseas will that be faster?

What do you think? Please advice....

It would likely be faster to ultimately receive your PR, but I don't believe you would get your OWP until the entire process is complete...which wouldn't be much of a difference IMHO. If your primary need is for the OWP (and not the ability to leave Canada during the process), you might be better off doing nothing...and just wait...and wait...and wait.

Hi Scarlett_R. Welcome to the waiting game. I guess you will receive your AOR around 15th December.

When you can get your OWP? Nobody knows it. Maybe in 11 months or so. CIC says that 'The processing times only show the time it took visa offices to approve or refuse 80 percent of applications during a specified period in the past. They may not accurately predict future processing times'.

In Outland case, only the assessment of sponsor is done at Step 1. However, in Inland case, the assessment of applicant is also done at Step 1. That's why Step 1 of Inland is longer than one of Outland.

Where are you from? Step 2 of Outland depends on the visa office.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm/fc-spouses.asp
For example, if you are from China or France, I would withdraw your application and apply for Outland. But if you are from Pakistan, Inland is better.

This surprises me since I know I had governmental mail forwarded. Some things that are marked "do not forward" (like the PR card) will not be forwarded, but this is the first I've heard that Canada Post will not forward any governmental mail.

Happy Monday, all! It's officially one month until Christmas/holidays today! Hopefully a lot of us will get some good news before CIC slows down for the holiday break! :) Here's to a great week ahead!
My parents will be here in less than a month weee! Yes, hopefully they should get as far as start on March before the holidays. I WISH I would get approval before the new year but I think that is a bit too much to ask for. It would be such a nice christmas present.

Hello there,

AOR means acknowledgment of receipt, which it's an email
Saying your application have been received by CIC.

You don't have to do anything (sadly) just wait. :)
