I sincerely hope so. I actually applied the same time as 'bankerguy'. Received Sept.18/13 and started processing October 4/13. Just the way they word their letters tend to give people false hope. Like they are working on Stage 2 when I haven't even received Stage 1 approval yet.
It's a Stage 2 thing. Maybe they want to send you straight to landing interview without AIP, which is a good thing. I guess 2015 begins so the quota has been reset back to full.

I hope we both get AIP's the same day.

If we get AIP or SP i will for sure post it in here the same day..just so everyone can get a little bit of hope.

my spouse (common-law) just received email from CIC asking to provide updated passport, medical tests (didn't do them when applying), RPRF, proof of relationship and proof of cohabitation. letter attached to email and dated Jan 6th.

I don't know what the hell they want as proof of relationship and cohabitation, we have been together for over 7 years and provided over 10 letters from friends and family confirming our relationship. The lease in Toronto is in my name, as my spouse doesn't have a SIN (temporary visitor at the time). My spouse also couldn't open up a bank account... so now - 16 months (minus around 10 days) after they received our application they want more proof... and I wrote to them then there was no more official proof to provide - i can't create official paperwork myself when my spouse is out of status and was temporary then - when there is no way to have your name put on the lease or open a bank account, or even have a phone in your own name - it's in mine.

In addition - we provided tens of photos spanning over 7 years, our travel bookings, postcards, pretty much anything that we could get but the official stuff... I don't know what to think now - they might as well get us in for an interview if they don't believe us.. Any ideas, guys, what i can provide in addition to what already provided? thank you

Sounds like your spouse got the same letter my husband got on January 5th. In our original application we included our marriage certificate, pictures (~50), bank statements and letters from our financial institutions indicating we have shared accounts from 2007. Copies of our leases from 2008 to present or some sort of government document indicating the same address. And still the letter says to prove our relationship...not 'additional info', but proof of relationship. Hence I believe they might be stalling for more time with the new pilot program taking effect. I know the feeling.

My understanding is that they are wanting to make sure that you're still living together. After all, it's been 16 months since you sent in the previous proof. In that case I think you'd want to send recent documentation for each of you that shows the same address, bills mailed to your address in each of your names, etc.

That being said, I haven't gone through this yet. Maybe someone who's experienced this themselves might be able to give a better idea.

Unbelievable, yet not... at the same time!

Your spouse can be added to your bank account (Scotia Bank and TD for sure) since his status is not even questioned.

I would also suggest that you contact your landlord and ask if s/he would be willing to write a letter verifying that although your spouse isn't listed on the lease, s/he has been residing there from [dates].

Lastly, you could add your spouse to your existing cell phone account and give him/her account access.

Good luck!

Did your letter indicate how far back they want proof from? Mine actually says to provide proof of relationship and cohabitation from one month BEFORE we got married to the present.

This doesn't really help, but I think this article explains what is going on with CIC and their stupid requests and odd behaviour.

Other than what has been stated, if its possible, you can name each other as beneficiaries to your existing insurances, hubby also changed his beneficiary in the financial documents we have in the banks. Yes, i think they would want ti verify the continuing cohabitation of couples given this llong wait period. You can send mail addressed to yourselves. Or asked friends to send something maybe like cards for whatever occassion you might have upcoming. Then you can use the stamped envelope and the card as proofs.
Wow, i think it really depends on the officer checking your file. Good luck!

My husband made a notarial declaration that I live with him at the same address since I arrived in canada and put also a copy of his driver license with the same address. I also include the revenue declaration for both where there is the same address. An e-mail from a local library on my name where is the same address confirming my subscription. I made a private insurance witch was paid with my husband credit card where it also appear the address. My husband manage to put my name on his debit account so I put that too.
You can put any letter that your spouse received on that address.
And of course recent photos.

Nice article! Especially:

“An important area of concerns resides with the letters. The number of request letters not sent, sent incomplete or unclear at initial stage and later on create a negative impact on both clients and the Case Processing Centre (in Vegreville, Alta.),” said an evaluation of operations at Vegreville. It was one of three internal reports obtained under an access to information request.

Honestly, they are only human, but they could at least act like humans of the 21st century.
There should be an electronic record immediately after they receive a document.
That way if they forget something we can notice the error and provide feedback.

It's ridiculous how their union chair complains that the work is too difficult and how they're losing high-seniority people to low-seniority "casual employees". Typical entitled union propaganda.

You can get a joint bank account without SIN.
Also, depending on where you work etc, you can have your spouse added to your health plan + listed as your life insurance benefactor. My husband is a physician so we had those documents photocopied from his work as well.

Not all scotiabank allow spouses without SIN to sign up a joint account. I suspects it is on branch by branch cases. Scotiabank branch at two difference locations wouldn't allow me to get joint account until my wife has SIN. Since there were no hurry, we waited until my wife had one.

Well folks, it's our anniversary. 22 months on stage 1 with no word yet. I'd love to talk to a call centre agent today and wish them a happy anniversary but either the phones are genuinely too busy or they just don't want to talk anymore. :p
I feel so bad for you! We have been waiting for 11 months for stage 2 and I feel so discouraged. I can't imagine waiting almost 2 years for stage 1! I hope you get a response from them soon!
