Deedeedar,

While it is unfortunate that you would be required an AIP letter to get your health coverage, it is done to reduce abuse and fraud. Keep in mind that there was a time you couldn't apply for any health coverage until you get your COPR. Plus there was a time that you couldn't get your PR card until 2 years has passed thus making travel for non visa exempt country applicant impossible to travel.

Fortunately the rules have been relaxed a bit to allow applicants to get health coverage and get their PR card shortly after landing.

Thanks Screech339

Can I still buy the travel insurance in Canada? What company do you recommend?

I'm asking this, because we still live in the same building but moved to a bigger apartment so a different suite #, I renewed my licence last October with our current address but my boyfriend has his licence with the old address, and yesterday we wanted it to change it online but because now there's a new drivers licence (EDL) enhanced driver's licence it says you have to get it personal, so my bf says we can prove we live together because you know mail etc. but Im not that confident about it. Any input will be appreciate it

When you move you have to update your drivers license address. Ive moved 3 times since my license was last renewed in 2010 and I had to get a little address admendment "stickers" each time with the new address to stick on the back of my card.

You should change your address with *everything* when you move. The only exception is if you change provinces for less than 2-3 months then you dont change your healthcare.

- Someone who has moved 7 times in the last 10 years.

I can't recommend any place for travel insurance as I found them to be all very expensive. When I gotten quotes for myself and my kids, we were given a cheaper insurance since we were Canadian waiting 3 months before OHIP kicks in. Whereas my wife's was over the top ridiculous. Since she is a foreigner, she gotten a higher quote per monthly period. So we took a risk and not bothered with getting coverage. Even though we saved ourselves a lot of money, it was a gamble. My wife went 11 months without any coverage.

Hello everyone, congrats to those who got AIP, OWP, and landing interview! ;D

Just hoping mine will be done soon too! It's been 2 months and a week since I got my Decision made letter. Will be landing in Vancouver office, I am just worried because I don't know how to contact them and when I called CIC they said, Vancouver office doesn't make notes on the system. So how can I follow up my application? Does anybody here, tried landing in Vancouver too?

We called about our landing week after week to CIC after 7 weeks has passed. Our landing letter came after 9 weeks. The agent told us that she should have heard from office by then. So they contacted the local CIC on our behalf and a week later gotten a letter.

So try calling them week after week to get on their case. Get them moving.

Will definitely call them! Thanks so much for the advice!

Hey guys, congrats to every one who's
Stepping on up the immigration ladder!
It's less than a week to my right month mark
Since cic received my application. Today I finally
Muster the courage to call cic(wasn't expecting anything)
The officer was less than helpful, he advised me not to send
Application in for work permit because it will be returned to me.
He also said that they are currently on strike so
That's why there's a delay. When I told him I thought it only effect
The outside officers or work related to outside application . He was agreeing with until
I pointed out that the first stage ( which is where I'm at) is something that's done
Internally. His response was he that he can't give me a reason for the delay.
Pulling out my hair***

i think there's a lot of hair being pulled out over this frustrating delay

They are all fairly comparable. If you are a CAA member, check with them about travel coverage. I used Manulife several years ago and that worked out just fine too.

My husband received his PR card today.
Just in time for our vacation ... Thank The Lord!
Just an advice , after you land call CIC and insure the officer inputed your mailing address.
We were informed 3 weeks ago that they didn't have our address on file even though we provided it on landing. They said it will take another 66 days since they just added it.
But they were wrong and thank The Lord we got it!

Best wishes.

Landed: April 12
PR Card arrival: June 19
