Absolute scammers. I called yesterday to the call center and ask for payment link for postal just to compare pricing with my local Purolator. They sent payment for one way 61.8.

I thought overnight and begrudgingly said to myself, didn't want the hassle to do it myself and called to see if the link was still valid and ok to make payment, CS told that link expired, i will send new link. On hold for a few mins, and voila, now the one way charge is 71.07. I asked the reasoning and they go, " we don't set the prices, the system itself will make the price".

The absolute nerve of them to be so openly corrupt. Crazy.
Lots of appointments open at BLS Mississauga try to do it in person and save some money and avoid returning of application.

I submitted my application for passport surrender on June 5th. Still shows "Consulate Processing" in Vancouver. It is July 9th. Is there any other way to know what exactly they are waiting for??

Anyone here who submitted Passport Surrender in Montreal or Ottawa office?
What is the current processing time ? it seems Ottawa office is the slowest.
Waiting since 12th June, it still shows under review at consulate.

Hi,

I will be becoming a Canadian Citizen soon. After receiving my Canadian Passport, I intend to travel to India using my Indian Passport.

I don't want to surrender my Indian Passport in Canada, as I have to travel to India immediately. As far as I know, Indian Passport is still valid for 3 months after becoming a Canadian Citizen. Once I reach India on my Indian Passport, I will surrender my (Indian) passport in India.

My question is: After I surrender my Indian Passport and receive the surrender certificate, can I apply for OCI while in India? If yes, will I still need the "Exit Permit" to return to Canada? I am planning to stay in India for an year.

Any information is really appreciated. Thanks in advance!

You cannot travel to India using your Indian Passport after receiving Canadian Passport. If they find out, you can have serious consequences. Indian passport is not valid any longer for travel.

Surrender of passport can happen in India provided you travel on Canadian Passport. But you cannot apply for OCI from India, you have to travel back to Canada and apply for OCI.

Thanks for your reply. I was just reading this thread: https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/threads/are-visa-services-being-offered-to-canadian-citizens-who-are-already-in-india.823782/

Seems like multiple people have travelled to India using Indian Passport after receiving their Canadian Passport. They were also able to surrender Indian Passport in India and apply for OCI while in India (after staying there for six months).

Am I missing something?
I know that OCI cannot be applied from India, but for travel on Indian Passport and surrender in India do consult and contact FRRO to see what they have to say https://indianfrro.gov.in/eservices/home.jsp

Will do, thank you for the link.

> I know that OCI cannot be applied from India

Looks like you can, see this: https://ociservices.gov.in/

Moreover, the foreigner has to be ordinarily resident of India to be eligible to apply for OCI registration in India.

Why do you want to travel with Indian passport after getting Canadian passport?

Getting an e-visa is easy and travel on that will be the optimal way for you. Then you can surrender your Indian passport while in India and apply for OCI once back.

Don't I need a surrender certificate to apply for the e-visa while in Canada? Or can I get the visa without having to surrender my Indian Passport?
