Hello!

I'm looking at the checklist for an application. (outland)

It says that supporting documents require photocopies, unless instructed otherwise. Do these photocopies all have to be certified? (I heard that marriage certificates do not have to be certified.)

Thanks in advance!

We had all photocopies certified, just to be on the safe side. Better that than having them rejected.

We had to pay £5 (about CAD$ 7.50) per page.

Well its hard to draw a line on what needs to be certified and what not.
For instance if you are submitting a photo copy of your utilities etc... which do not add much value to your file , you may not certify them and shed money on those.
But some important documents like passport copies , birth certificate , govt issued docs etc will better be certified.

Hope it helps. You are the god for your own applications as you may consider them important to make decision and someone might think its not worth it.

Thank you.

Another question about this document; if I don't need a certain form (like e.g. Use of a Representative) do I check the box or write NA over it before sending it? Furthermore, do I need to include that form regardless?

Don't include the form and don't tick the box.

They only have to be certified if the instructions say they have to be. If not, photocopies are fine. There is no harm in getting the most important copies certified - such as the marriage certificate - but it is not necessary for most countries.
If the visa officer questions the validity of the document, he or she will ask to see the original anyway.

Regional differences must vary greatly, see your Regional Guide for specifics. We had to submit either "originals" for some docs, or "copies" for others. None of our "copies" were required to be certified (so we didn't), and interestingly of ALL the stuff they returned to us what was not returned was our "original" marriage certificate. Hmmph!

Ahh, thanks for sharing your experiences all!

Will they keep your marriage certificate? I ordered a bunch of them; spares and one to frame in. :)

I wasn't prepared to take the risk with original documents except where mandated, such as PCC and IMM 1017B.
UK Marriage certificate and UK birth certificate cannot be recovered. Only "copies of register entries" are available. Both need A3 sheets to copy.
