HI guys,

I am about to pay for my fees but really need your help! My common law wife is sponsoring me. We have a 3 year old daughter together and I have lived in Canada with her for over a year now. I also have full custody of my 10 year old daughter who lives with us as well, she is from my previous marriage and I want to get her residency as well. Which of the below am I supposed to pay?

Sponsorship application $75

Principal applicant $475.00

Principal applicant who is under 19 years of age, unmarried and not in a common-law relationship $75.00

Spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner $550.00

Family member of the principal applicant who is under 19 years of age, unmarried and not in a common-law relationship OR is 19 years of age or older who has been unable to be financially self-supporting since before the age of 19 due to a physical or mental condition $150.00

Fee subject to a transitional provision - Family member of the principal applicant who is 22 years of age or older $550.00

Fee subject to a transitional provision - Family member of the principal applicant who is under 22 years of age, unmarried and not in a common-law relationship OR is 22 years of age or older who is unable to be financially self-supporting due to physical or mental condition $150.00

I believe the total will be $1040 (for you) and $150 for your daughter from the previous marriage. You will also need to have an immigration medical for yourself and your daughter (price varies, but expect ~ $225-$300 each). Oh...and your police check(s) from countries where you have lived 6 months or longer since age 18.

That depends on whether you are submitting an Inland application or an Outland application (which you can do even if you are in Canada). If you still have legal status, the idea of having an Open Work Permit (in ~ 4 months) is probably appealing to you, BUT...the overall processing time for an Inland applicant is close to 2 years!

Outland applicants are advised to include medical and police checks with the application.

Inland applicants can wait for CIC to request them, since they are part of the second stage (after AIP).
