From this point forward , if for any reason my spouse or his in-laws were to follow up with the status would they be able to do anything ?
Basically there are only a few ways your spouse will be able to find out you got PR status:
- if he contacts CIC to ask them
- if he tries to sponsor a new spouse in next 3 years, he will soon find out he has an existing undertaking
- if you go on social services (welfare) in next 3 years, he will get a notice of this as he has to repay it
If he finds out you became PR he can indeed try to tell CIC that you landed under misrepresentation and were already separated. This would possibly lead to an investigation, but he would need to have proof such as emails or something in writing that you had mutually agreed to a separation/divorce, before you did the landing. If everything was verbal, then you can just say at time of landing you were still a couple and the relationship officially ended after that.
