As she has landed, it is no longer possible to check ecas. Ecas is only for applications still in process, hers is closed.

The inlaws could access her information unlawfully, by calling CIC and pretending to be her. Afterall, the COPR they have contains all relevant information needed to confirm her identity. I wouldn't put it past them.
I'm not sure how one prevents this 100% though.

The OP could in fact check the little box on the eCas system that it should not be available online and then nobody but HER would know what she is or is not doing or where she is living. This would put a huge door stop on her in laws for 'checking up' on her to see what is happening.

This is incorrect. Ecas is not purged for some time after landing. I landed in early November and Ecas still shows all my details.

There is a check box that ask you if you want to remove yourself from the online status only. Once you accepted it, it cannot be view online anymore.

If she has in fact changed her address, and they can't access that information and do not know where she is, then it would be hard for them to confirm the required information to gain access. She could, as I stated before, remove the ability for anyone (including herself) to check the status online. After a short period of time, she could also then call CIC and perhaps ask them to set her up with a security password or something of that nature and tell them that someone has indeed been trying to impersonate her and get her information. I don't know if that works in Canada, but you can do these kinds of things in the US to stop identity theft.

Did she need to take any written or road test? Or it was just a straight swap?

Anyway I'm still kinda torn on if i want to swap. The reason being when I visit family in NY, I need to drive around. My family still has me listed as a driver on the insurance (with my NYS license info). I don't need to drive in Canada because of where I live (right smack downtown Toronto in the middle of everything and a 5 minute walk to work). So I actually drive the most in NY.

btw - my apologies to the OP for hijacking your thread a bit!
No worries I don't mind at all after all we're all here to help each other out. In fact I would most likely have to take the written and road test, I've held my US restricted drivers license since I was 16yrs old. I guess you could say I never actually "needed" to drive myself around but it is something at this point I would like to get to expand my independence. Unfortunatly throughout the course of my relationship I wasn't exactly encouraged to pursue certain things... That's why I was asking about the Photo Id card in the meantime.

On a lighter note thank you all for the " congrats" :D

I actually saw this option when I signed online earlier to double check my mailing address. I think I will most definitely log back on and check this option I don't want them getting a hold of the mailing address I have on file . However, my understanding is that upon selecting that little box no one including yourself will be able to look up my online file information. Although I can call CIC myself to check at a later date or even have that lifted.

You don't need the address to access the online status. Once OP remove her online status, then the in-laws won't know what her status is. In fact they can find her address online as address is listed online. once the online feature is removed, only then the in-laws won't know.

Of course, if you want to be thorough, you could log onto ecas as him and tick his box too....

To the OP, congratulations!

I spent a while, during the long 160 km drive into work today, thinking about this case.
Under the circumstances, this could not have gone any better.

I wonder what would have been said if it had been your spouse posting on here instead of you.
The offered advice might have been very different :D

My PR card took 64 days after landing.

Just an afterthought, you might want to order your GCMS notes now and see if any communication from your spouse to CIC is recorded in them. It might make interesting reading.

Thank you so much and yes under the circumstances I couldn't agree and be happier ;D
Looks like I'm in for a wait for the actual PRC but at least I have landed and my status is official now.
If you don't mind me asking , I'm still a bit of a noob in all this .. What are my GCMS notes and how do I order them ?

That is correct that when you remove the online feature, even yourself can't go online.

I guess it depends. Mine was not accessible after landing. No lag time.

 Looool I don't have any of his paperwork I didn't think he would have an online file since he's had status here for time and sponsored me. To be honest up until a week ago when my COPR papers were reissued would you belive that I didn't even have my UCI # :-X to be honest I'm of a live and let live nature.. I simply don't want him or his parents poking around and trying to mess with my documents, information or addresses on file. The way I see it is the less they know the better at this point .

Just out of curiosity (and you don't have to say which city you live in) - did you move to the city you both had intended to live in? I ask because if you feel he(or his parents) could cause you harm, it may be safer to consider moving to another city at your earliest opportunity.

Also, if you are both from the same community, be discret with the kind of information you share. Someone could tip him/his parents off.

Best wishes in all your endeavours. Congratulations!
