We wenr with GMS at about CAD 650 each
Whether or not you take gap covering health insurance is entirely optional and up to the individual. But how would you manage if you were involved and injured in car accident? You would have to pay for everything out of pocket and that could run to tens of thousands of dollars. I suspect the $650 cost for medical insurance would look like a bargain! You hear several radio ads and website that talk of health insurance for visitors and/or first 3 months etc. It typically works to $5 per day per head. But honestly one can skip if you have just had a medical done and your child is generally healthy
Bad advice. It is never advisable to be in a foreign country without insurance, particularly with a baby. One emergency could result in a hospital bill for hundreds of dollars or more. You hear several radio ads and website that talk of health insurance for visitors and/or first 3 months etc. It typically works to $5 per day per head. That’s ridiculous advice . Case in point . I just had a physical last year , healthy as a horse , one day nauseated at work, stomach pain , fast forward to evening , in emergency being told by Dr your appendix has burst and if we don’t take it out , it’s curtains . Appendix out , overnight stay in hospital. I’m covered by OHIP, but how much would it have cost if I was a non insured individual? You hear several radio ads and website that talk of health insurance for visitors and/or first 3 months etc. It typically works to $5 per day per head.
